The academy setting is kind of giving Basgaith (Fourth Wing). Also, having read my share of dystopian YA books (which Nisha said she was inspired by), I feel like the “madness” isn’t actually real, it’s just invented by the government.

I just realized that Selene’s familiar in the main series is named Nero, and that just so happens to be the name of the Roman emperor when this prequel takes place. I love these little Easter eggs
