enjoying it. easier to read once u get the hang of it. on canto iv
little picture of hell after canto iii was nice

lowkey its reminding me of functional neurological disorder and la belle indifference. like the whole turning into a bug thing is an allegory for becoming unable to stand up or walk, and gregor really doesn't gaf about being turned into a huge bug

so far this poem sucks

i wonder how engels would feel about the great pacific garbage patch

I wonder how engels would consider doctors/medical professionals. like most work for hospitals, so they don't own their means of practice, while others own their own practice. BUT in some ways, a physician's knowledge could constitute their means of practice, which they obviously own and are in complete control of. On the other hand, corporations basically run the medical field more than medical professionals :-(

second part of answer 12 is super interesting. it discusses how the bourgeoise established political power for themselves to ensure their continued 'success.' at the time, only the wealthy could vote, and they voted for electors who elected the prime minister or whatever it was at the time. while we have a more direct system now, the wealthy can still influence elections through huge donations

This is the translation I'm reading. I like Ciardi's prose and his explanations of references, although I wish they were at the bottom of each page instead of at the end of the canto.
on canto II rn
there was something about a swimmer in Canto I that was very similar to the opening of Through Me

I don't agree with everything he says, but I am very interested in the historical perspective
