im kind of assuming the only reason he hasnt tried to kill himself out of desperation yet is that its probably the thing thatll jerk him out of the loop

because even if he hasnt the suicidal personality after four or five replays i can imagine it would start to become a very appealing choice to anyone - i actually kind of thought he was going to do it when he woke up in his third life

"Thank God, the dead man is neither a priest nor a Spaniard. Besides, we must celebrate your escape. If that stone had caught you underneath.”
[...]
“Well, anyway, the dead man was just a native.”
“On with the fiesta! Music! Long faces won’t bring the dead back to life."

mind you, the man died like two minutes before they said all this - im really liking this book but sometimes it gets a little bit too real

arrivata finalmente a metà libro ed è spuntata solo ora la prima moneta contraffatta - inizio a mettere in discussione cosa sapevo della trama di questo libro

"Our family cottage. It’s like an hour away. We could spend the night. It’s really . . . special."

just how common were masked sex parties in germanophone society back then??

borgesian atmosphere + joycian sentence structure + nabokovian stylistic lexicon = why do i keep choosing difficult books to read????

i hate that you can't send private messages here on goodreads anymore ;(((( how am i supposed to talk to people about their replies to my friendship request standard question and actually build a rapport with new people? or talk more in depth about books without clogging everyone's timeline?

"There were few events that commanded the total attention of the community as much as a passing funeral. Its size was commented upon, and the life story of the deceased, whatever was known of it, whispered from person to person. It was more than a funeral they watched. In a way, it was a small lesson in community history, and everyone, for those minutes, was a diligent scholar."

of course, little girls just looooove to be raped

"L'amore codardo che tutti noi proviamo per la libertà (libertà che, se la conoscessimo, troveremmo strana perché nuova, e la rifiuteremmo) è il vero indizio del peso della nostra schiavitù."
