Okay, early days yet, but this is good. Like, really good. Whenever I pick up a "classic," I kind of expect it to be a bit of a slog, but this is so engaging. It's the voice. You can't fake that kind of self-aware-but-doing-it-anyway old school British snobbery.

Finally, the bingeable read I’ve been looking for!

The stakes are fate-of-the-world, but so far the villains are cartoonish? I’m not sure what to make of this, except that it is definitely a YA novel tarted up to look more adult than it is.

I am reading the book and listening to the audio book at the same time and THEY ARE AMAZING. Hands-down the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to, with music composed and performed by the author and her sister, and the book is fully illustrated. Where had this been all my life?

I am always down for a gothic mermaid story. However, I have deep reservations about this audiobook narrator.

Glad I read the foreword! I almost always skip forewords and then read them at the end because half the time they give spoilers. Well. This one was part of the book. It was, like, a fake foreword.

On vacation, I always enjoy reading whatever random book the previous person has left behind in the place I’m staying. This is my first James Patterson! So far, its primary virtue is that it is in English.

Every time I think I've figured out where this is going, I am wrong. I know this is horror. Horror doesn't end well. And YET... This author keeps stringing my hopes along! gah

I have no idea where this is going, but omg I have never read anything so realistic and unhinged all at once. This book is amazing! I wish I had a print copy in hand as I listen to the audio, however, so I could see the names.
