Not loving this. At page 34, I started skimming. It's kind of a big font and wide margins, so instead of Nancy's Rule of 50, I'm going to give this until page 100, not skimming, but trying to enjoy. If it's not better by page 100, bye bye, sorry.

Anyone get any books for the holidays that you're excited about?

Does anyone know of a "Back to the Future and Philosophy"-type of book? I can't find one in the Blackwell Philosophy of Pop Culture series or the Popular Culture and Philosophy series, which shocks me.

I'm going through my Books Read and noticing a lot from back in the day without Start Dates. I don't remember how Goodreads handled Start vs. Finished dates back in the day. Did we not have separate fields back then? I don't remember. Or did that data get erased at some point?

Also, if you're getting a bunch of updates of books I've read, now you know why: I'm (re-)adding Start Dates.

I'm adding _The Professor and the Madman_ (ISBN 9780060175962) to Bookmooch. Good condition. It was a good book, but it's time to pass it on and let someone else enjoy it.

Back in March, I created a covid-lockdown-2020 bookshelf to keep track of all the books I read while following the "Stay Home, Stay Healthy"/shelter-in-place rules. Now, between losing my job (so staying at home anyway, not just because of guidelines) and COVID-19 not going away, I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever NOT need the bookshelf again, or at what point I just stop using it because it's become The New Normal.

My library is closing up in 45 minutes and is allowing patrons to check out 300 books during the closure. I AM IN HEAVEN!!

Even from page 1, I've had a feeling this book is going to make me sad that I never got to talk to Paul Allen.

Trying to decide the next book to read and I made a pile of about 30 books. Hmmm... Which to pick? So many choices.

I just took the "quiz" for the Great American Read, and I've only read 40 out of the 100 books. I feel so un-read! (Then the quiz scolded me and said I had some work to do, or something like that! :( )

Didn't plan on liking this, but so far, I'm sucked in.

Ehrman sometimes makes comments that seem to disagree with things he's said earlier in the book, but I'm waiting to see if he later explains how these two things only *seem* to contradict each other. (How do "know" which is the "best" version of the text? At one time he seems to say we can't, at another time he seems to be saying there *is* a "best" version, and there fore the one we should be basing everything on.)

Starting slowly...

I go to the bookstore to look for ONE book on my to-read list, and instead, I come home with TWO books from my to-read list, and FOUR books to ADD to my to-read list! My to-read list will never die, and my bookshelves will never be relieved.

My reading plan for 2018 was that I had to read x number of books I already owned, y number of books from the 1001 Books You Must Read list, and z number of books from a specific other shelf, but the books could (no, WOULD) be chosen serendipitously at the time I needed a book. It's only January 8, and I've gone crazy about 3 times already not being able to plan EXACTLY which books I plan to read for the year!

I've got about 7 hours to read 6 months' worth of magazines, newsletters, and pamphlets so I can start 2018 with a clean nightstand for reading. ... I don't think I'm going to make it.
