Engagingly written and often insightful. Provides a very approachable discussion of racial issues that will hopefully open up a lot of people to uncomfortable discussions.

That said, as a researcher, the sourcing in this book is terrible. I would like to use her discussions as a starting point to look into things more but despite discussing research and making sweeping claims there is almost no citing done.

Jeffrey is on page 460 of 592 of Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America
Engagingly written and informative work that in general should force readers to question some of their assumptions and the lenses they apply to their world. However, is also filled with sweeping generalizations and overreaches and confuses levels of analysis in discussions related to individual vs group differences.

Benny randomly demands to go mountain climbing and grandfather insults Violet within the first 2 pages, not a good start.

So far misconstrues the nature of goals, at least assumes that goals are only high-level constructs and not that they exist in a hierarchy.

Went into the book a major skeptic, but so far Duckworth has made a lot of good points. Although Im far from convinced that grit is anything more than a repackaging of previous concepts, her discussion of the over-reliance on "talent" (though it depends on how you define said concept) and things like job performance are points I wish organizational psychology and organizations themselves took more seriously.

So far, it is very interesting as a historiographical piece. While I agree with his premise, so far, that not enough attention is paid to the positive aspects of history, I am not convinced of his belief that it is "shared humanity" that is the opposing, positive force.
