I fear I love this book already. I audibly gasped at a beautiful passage today while in public.

I need a direct line to Jacob Tierney right fuckin now so I can tell him to use Dancing in The Club MJ Lenderman version to soundtrack Laure’s fall after Erica goes to uni in the adaptation. It’s too good.

One of the characters being named Laure (Laurel with no l at the end) is going to mess with my head the whole book I fear

Obsessed w her name dropping that Zac Posen had been her babysitter

Really wonderful so far, got me going down Wikipedia rabbit holes about Iraqi history and such

Need a bit of a fluffy palette cleanser after emotional devastation of Young Mungo

This is going to be a tough read, I’m already anxious about where this seems to be heading.

if I had a nickel for every book I’ve read back to back dealing with Catholicism and queerness and how they intersect … I’d have two nickels but weird that it’s happened twice. Well not exactly weird because of course that’s my exact niche of interest.

I’m so excited to read this one :)

I would hereby like to thank Zohran Mamdani and the New York Public Library for making all Game Changers books publicly available with no wait through Valentine’s Day, this is exactly what I needed while snowed in!

Feels SO weird and serendipitous that this is the third book I’ve read in a row that takes place in the DMV without me realizing

So excited for this one, I’ve been heavily anticipating :)

This is such a difficult read. The way that Tia and the other children in this community are forced into fear and shame as tools to keep them obedient and believing in God is genuinely so disturbing. They’re all way too impressionable for this, and it is so clearly laying the groundwork for a lifetime of religious trauma.

Pretty sure I already know what the twist is going to be … it seems really clear who actually killed her family.
