Oh okay I get it.

Idk the writing is bothering me A LOT. Her repetition isn’t for emphasis and the things she repeats are not important. Like stop using the word “palimpsest” like god

And this could’ve genuinely been cut in half, it’s just the same stuff over and over

Hitting a wall because she alternates flashback chapters and current chapters right when she met the love interest. Boooooring

Flying, this book is so easy to get through and just what I needed. Author uses waaaaaaayyyyyyy too many similes and metaphors tho. Like deadass every sentence. It’s getting annoying.
But the love interest was just introduced so ayyyeeee 😛

Oh my godddddd I have never read a book that drags like this. Like I so get the feminism aspects of it but come onnnnn. I’m basically out in the desert with her and it’s barren all around me. I’m determined to finish it tho. Wouldn’t recommend as of rn

So behind in reading for my class. Really glad I decided to actually read this.

Everyone should read this.

I’m picking at this

I’m losing my annotation groove, if I wasn’t writing I’d be reading so much faster

So far, and I’m not very far, it seems that this girl
1. has been trapped under ground
2. is only surrounded by women but kept by men
3. her thought process is largely rooted in misogyny
Makes you kinda think: well we all kind of start at a misogynist baseline, even without exposure to things, it’s just the structure of societies. Good so far.

You guys wouldn’t believe what two themes this chapter consisted of.
If I told you it was his grandmother dying + being f’ed in the *ss for the first time and getting poopoocaca on the person what would you think. I’m actually fr.
“I sit, with all my theories, metaphors, and equations, Shakespeare and Milton, Barthes, Du Fu, and Homer, masters of death who can’t, at last, teach me how to touch my dead.”

This book is changing me as a person.

This is one of the best written books I think I’ve ever read and I don’t know what that says about me. I think he’s a genius. I’m annotating but really I’m just underlining and bracketing every word or sentence he writes.

“The boy who would change what I knew of summer, how deep a season opens when you refuse to follow the days out of it. The boy from whom I learned there was something even more brutal than work—want.”

Haven’t been able to pick this up in awhile because of school, didn’t get to read much over spring break either :p

Liking this so far, doesn’t even feel like homework, and feel really lucky that this story is shared. Super cool that it’s about the yoop.

In the most respectful way, I have culture envy. Every Native story I hear is so beautiful.

“When I first started writing, I hated myself for being so uncertain, about images, clauses, ideas, even the pen or journal I used. Everything I wrote began with ‘maybe’ and ‘perhaps’ and ended with ‘I think’ or ‘I believe’. Even when know something to be true as bone I fear the knowledge will dissolve, will not, despite my writing it, stay real.”

I’m micro-dosing pure creation reading this
