what is with the choice to have this narrated by the most annoying little prick on earth

Freya Marske was marketed to me as writing "fanficcy" in an endearing way but no, genuinely this reads like fanfiction for something else. Character and relationship development is done so poorly because it reads like a fanfic where the author expects the reader to already be invested in those.

How am I supposed to care about Dante or Lennon or whoever else when the author dropped baby Heisenberg in our laps and never shows up again. Like no this should be his story. What's his fucking deal.

This book isn't good but kind of in the way that one direction self-insert fanfiction isn't good. So I can't be too mad at it. But also if I took a shot for every time the author puts something in parentheses and/or tells us "lennon learned something offpage" I'd have liver failure.

why are we pitting our beautiful queens (STEM and Law) against each other in this book. like ok dr. hazelwood why don't YOU tell me what chevron deference is

See spot run ass prose. Also the metaphor for arousal being "my pussy is full of bees" is absolutely hilarious. Not how I'd describe it Mallinali but what do I know.

1. Why dual POVs with third person limited? Why not just do third omniscient? I'm SO hung up on this.
2. You can't tell me that these characters are enamored with each other and then not give me any reason why (other than physical attraction) these characters like each other. As it stands, Sybil sees Esme as a resource n Esme seems to be annoyed with Sybil a lot of the time. Like.

Do you ever read a book where the side characters are so interesting yet the main characters read like planks of wood. It's like the author forgot to give them any real personalities. Eammon and Red are so PAINFULLY dull.

If I had a nickel for every book about lesbians that held itself out to be a scholarly nonfiction but was actually a buzzfeed-cadence memoir I've read this year, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

It feels like Emilie Autumn's "The Art of Suicide" without any of the biting commentary about how little people care for women's pain until and unless they die pretty.

I mean I'm glad that Feyre's international superspy era is completed? Also why does this book want me to like Lucien. Lucien sucks rn

My partner asked me how far along in the book I was and I was like "well surely I'm nearly halfway done" and was jumpscared because no I was like a quarter of the way done which tells you what the pacing in this is like. The first quarter is so much puttering around ft. Rhys who really wants to show what he learned in his women's studies class.

Tamlin's character assassination sure is something else. But given that the Night Court got way more sexy cool powers, I suppose I saw it coming a mile away.
