i’m really adoring the writing style of this book. there is such a harmonious balance of portraying the melancholic reality of life yet including the beauty in aging. Sybil is quite an unflinching and awe-inspiring woman.

i absolutely love the way this novel is written so far. the wit and wisdom of Sybil is delightful.

i can sense the tragedy awaiting…

there are at least three different timelines in attempting to keep track of. it’s equal parts intriguing and frustrating - in a good way! i am interested in the relevance of the trial in this story.

i’m absolutely loving this book. it feels weirdly simple to read yet manages to abstain emotional depth.

i’m so surprised at how easy and thrilling this novel is to read. i’m genuinely very excited to see how this story unravels.

the relationship between Elle and Anna is both toxic and imperfect; however, sisterhood once again proves how the love between two sisters is stronger than many forces. they both despise each other yet understand one another beyond any superficial level.

Avery is the realist. Bonnie is the peace-keeper. Lucky is the wild child. each dynamic between them creates so many different forms of tension that - together - becomes a recipe for disaster. i am shocked by how each sister can make and break bonds between another sister so quickly and effortlessly.

i’m officially invested in the tense yet tender relationship between Bonnie and her trainer.

for obvious reasons i like Jonas, but for more conventional reasons i like Peter. what i like about Jonas that Peter doesn’t have is that authenticity that is rarely seen in people - like Elle could tell him an entire world of secrets and he’d make her feel accepted.

Coco Mellors writing is stylistically beautiful and harsh.

this novel is a lot - a lot - darker than i anticipated it to be.

there’s quite a lot of innuendo in this novel. i don’t mind realism, but it is slightly feeling a bit obtrusive.

this novel is so far very unflinching. the writing is very descriptive - almost lyrical - but disturbingly transparent.

i love William’s character so much, oh my word. 🥹 he’s literally the gentlest and kindest person ever.

please… let Alice meet William. i don’t even know if i’m imagining things, but Alice’s character even feels like she has some of William in her - despite the height. such as gentle curiosity and a fear of loneliness. i really hope they get to meet each other.

i think i love Sylvie’s character more and more each chapter of hers that i read.

i knew Carrie would win… but i did have my doubts. i feel like i reminisce with her doubt and insecurity while also relating to her relentless ambition and denial that any failure can happen.

i believe in Carrie.

i think William has been severely misunderstood and mistreated by Julia. from the beginning, she’s forcefully moulded William into the husband and father she’s expected him to be - even created him to be. William, however, has not grown because of this but been suppressed. his dreams and aspirations have been forfeited to instead please someone else’s life, not his own. no wonder he got so sad.

not even one hundred pages in, and i’m swayed by the tragic beauty within this novel. how the mundanity of life is both so beautiful yet so cruel.

Carrie’s determination and resilience is so admirable; i know she is borderline vicious but wow is she impressive.

i’m already obsessed.

Signs has not one, not two, but three men running after her. Everett, Sylas, and - of course - Death.

why do i feel as though Death and Sylus are somehow connected?

Monica is totally the murderer… please. i’m getting so sad at Abby’s life being sabotaged.

i love the haunting yet enchanting setting of Thorn Grove.

i do not like the building relationship between Monica and Sam. i’m scared. 😭

of course. i feel like i knew this was true. it was either that or Kingsley didn’t exist in the first place.
