this novel is so far very unflinching. the writing is very descriptive - almost lyrical - but disturbingly transparent.

i love William’s character so much, oh my word. 🥹 he’s literally the gentlest and kindest person ever.

please… let Alice meet William. i don’t even know if i’m imagining things, but Alice’s character even feels like she has some of William in her - despite the height. such as gentle curiosity and a fear of loneliness. i really hope they get to meet each other.

i think i love Sylvie’s character more and more each chapter of hers that i read.

i knew Carrie would win… but i did have my doubts. i feel like i reminisce with her doubt and insecurity while also relating to her relentless ambition and denial that any failure can happen.

i believe in Carrie.

i think William has been severely misunderstood and mistreated by Julia. from the beginning, she’s forcefully moulded William into the husband and father she’s expected him to be - even created him to be. William, however, has not grown because of this but been suppressed. his dreams and aspirations have been forfeited to instead please someone else’s life, not his own. no wonder he got so sad.

not even one hundred pages in, and i’m swayed by the tragic beauty within this novel. how the mundanity of life is both so beautiful yet so cruel.

Carrie’s determination and resilience is so admirable; i know she is borderline vicious but wow is she impressive.

i’m already obsessed.

Signs has not one, not two, but three men running after her. Everett, Sylas, and - of course - Death.

why do i feel as though Death and Sylus are somehow connected?

Monica is totally the murderer… please. i’m getting so sad at Abby’s life being sabotaged.

i love the haunting yet enchanting setting of Thorn Grove.

i do not like the building relationship between Monica and Sam. i’m scared. 😭

of course. i feel like i knew this was true. it was either that or Kingsley didn’t exist in the first place.

i love these novels so much. oh my goodness. the summer-rustic writing and vivid imagery and detail brings this story to life.

honestly, i feel terrible for each and every single character in this novel. why are their lives so tragic when they’ve made so many achievements? it’s so unfair.

i honestly don’t know if there will be some crazy plot twist, or if Liam is truly the killer he is being portrayed to be.

of course she saved the wrong Olivia.

i did not think Daisy and Billy would ever actually ever like each other - but they do! even if it is just civil respect.

poor Finnick is one of the sweetest, most misjudged characters in the novel.

i don’t know if i prefer this novel from the first one. i’m surprised by how much i’m enjoying this second novel.

i am dreading the tragedies that are yet to unfold in this novel.

that got really crazy and intense really quickly. but i loved it.
