i don’t know if i prefer this novel from the first one. i’m surprised by how much i’m enjoying this second novel.

i am dreading the tragedies that are yet to unfold in this novel.

that got really crazy and intense really quickly. but i loved it.

i loved this novel so much, oh my word. so much is happening and i love it.

i don’t really like Nick now.

okay… now i absolutely love Nina! that poor girl. her courage and resilience is admirable, i literally adore her character just as much as her mother’s character.

i’m going to cry… i love June so much. 🥹

Nina’s parents love story is devastating ☹️

i think i underestimated the young-adult element of this novel… the concept is very interesting, but i feel like i already know Emilie and Nick will end up getting together.

i knew she would marry Harry at one point or another - it was just a matter of when.

i absolutely adore Evelyn; she’s so effortlessly chic and emotionally complex.

i’m honestly so worried for their survival - they’re literally gambling with fate and death every single day on that boat.

i can already tell i will love Evelyn Hugo.

Franny is an extremely unique and daunting protagonist…

this novel is a lot more gruelling and dark than i expected…

i thought professors knew better than to romanticise innocent female students… as this almost always end in their demise.
although, i think Charlotte McConaghy resists idealising the trope by presenting Niall as being left alone while his wife explores the dangerous Arctic waters.

i realised some of my past ratings are definitely not a reflection of how i now currently rate my books - i.e. more critically - partly because my reading taste has changed quite drastically.
so, sorry for all the reviews resurfacing; just making necessary changes and tweaks.

the relationship between Joan and Frances is so special… i feel like an observer just admiring the unique, unbreakable bond between them.
if i didn’t know better, i would have thought Joan was Frances’ mother.

Joan’s ideology of the universe and God has got to be one of the most fascinating passages in a literary novel i’ve ever read 🥹

oh… i misinterpreted what this love story particularly meant.
this novel is a surprisingly tender exploration of self-discovery.

if i didn’t despise warin already, i definitely do now.

“Because the world had decided that to be soft was to be weak, even though in Joan's experience being soft and flexible was always more durable than being hard and brittle. i’m already falling in love with this book - constellations, aspirations, life - it’s perfect.

what a twist of events…

there is something mystical about the bond between Matilda and Vincent - i am yet to found out what underlies it.

this book is so enchanting and beautiful, i’m honestly so impressed with the writing.

this is getting very interesting. also, i love matilda’s character so much, her elegance radiates from the pages.

i’m really finding this book so beautifully well written!

i haven’t read a fantasy novel for a while, so it’s taking me a lot more concentration to understand who is who and what’s going on.
however, i’m already finding this so well written!

this frame narrative is making me a bit queasy; i never know which timeline i’m in.
