i love William’s character so much, oh my word. 🥹 he’s literally the gentlest and kindest person ever.

please… let Alice meet William. i don’t even know if i’m imagining things, but Alice’s character even feels like she has some of William in her - despite the height. such as gentle curiosity and a fear of loneliness. i really hope they get to meet each other.

i think William has been severely misunderstood and mistreated by Julia. from the beginning, she’s forcefully moulded William into the husband and father she’s expected him to be - even created him to be. William, however, has not grown because of this but been suppressed. his dreams and aspirations have been forfeited to instead please someone else’s life, not his own. no wonder he got so sad.

not even one hundred pages in, and i’m swayed by the tragic beauty within this novel. how the mundanity of life is both so beautiful yet so cruel.
