This book is so frustrating bc I like the themes and the prose is amazing but it’s v much falling victim to the tell don’t show trap. E.g there’s a beautiful monologue from the father figure where he just seems to make a bunch of inferences based on minimal input and extrapolates it to talk about the importance of acting out of kindness - it was beautiful but like… felt shoehorned in to fit thematically ??

I am, in fact, still a big sci-fi/fantasy reader (quelle surprise)
