One interesting part was when Max defeated Joe Louis who was black. After the fight, people wanted him to fight a gypsy or a Jew. In the book it said, "'It'd be fun to see Max take down all the mongrel races one at a time. Wouldn't it?'" (254). This shows that people enjoy seeing a white man beat all of the other "inferior" people.

One surprising part of the book was when Karl was expelled for being Jewish. His parents were now worried about his little sister also being expelled. In the book it said, "'Expelled. Not just me. This shows that because of Hitler's reign and the Nazis coming to power, Karl and all of the other Jews at his school were being stripped of an education.
