An interesting part was when Rue told Katniss about the tracker jackers that were above her. As Katniss was escaping the Career pack, she heard Rue next to her. Rue told her about the nest that was above her. It said "Her little hand slides into the open and points to something above my head...one of the Capitol's mutations, tracker jackers" (185.) When Rue informed her about the nest, she showed she cared about her.

One shocking part of the story was when Katniss and Peeta put the deadly berries in their mouths. After the rule that there could be two winners was revoked, this was there split second decision so they could both die or win. In the text it said "I lift my hand to my mouth, taking one last look at the world." (345.) The game makers knew there had to be one winner so they quickly announced that both of them could win.

One shocking part of the story was when Tresh decided to save Katniss from Clove. It was shocking because they were not allies and hadn't talked in the arena. In the text it said, "Clove is dangling a foot off the ground, imprisoned in Thresh's arms. I let out a gasp, seeing him like that, towering over me, holding Clove like a rag doll" (286.) It showed that they were even because of how Katniss took care of Rue.

One shocking part was when Claudius Templesmith said that there had been a rule change that stated there could be two winners from the same district. This was shocking because it showed the people of Panem were bored with the games. It said, "Both tributes from the same district will be declared winners if they are the last two alive" (244.) This shows that the Gamemakers still have power over the Hunger Games.

One important part was when Katniss got everyone looking her way because of her outfit during the ride to the capitol's center. Usually people overlook district 12, but Cinna's creativity with the fire got everyone looking her way. The text said, "'Katniss! Katniss!' I hear my name being called from all sides. Everyone wants my kisses" (71.) Katniss and Peeta made a statement with the fire and them holding hands.

One shocking part was when Katniss volunteered her self to be tribute in the Hunger Games instead of her younger sister, Prim. Katniss was so confused because there were so many different names to be pulled. Katniss alone had her name in the reaping twenty times. She didn't want Prim to die so she volunteered. It said, "There must have been some mistake. This can't be happening. Prim was one slip in thousands" (21.)
