This is the loveliest freaking book, full of fun and comfort and cozy things but also legit compelling story and beautiful little nuggets of truth/life wisdom. I already know I’m going to give this five stars and won’t stop evangelizing for this — PUT IT ON YOUR READ LIST RN!!!

Oh dear… the stereotyped “tough cop lady” who is mean to the white lady MC being revealed to be a POC *and* a lesbian … I was already feeling like I might need to drop this book bc the mc’s frenetic headspace is not fun to be in and the mystery was failing to intrigue so far. I’ll give it till 25% but I think this book has lost me.

All the historical research I would’ve done myself after tentatively getting interested/willing to entertain the idea that there may actually be something to astrology— done *for* me here, with credible sources and beautifully clear/well-argued academic writing style. It’s a huge book but riveting in every moment!

I have rarely seen or read true love captured on page or screen, but Madeline Miller has certain done it here. Guess she is now my favorite author and I'll have to read everything by her...

I'd initially said Mr. Satterthwaite and Mr. Quin's relationship kind of read like a slowburn m/m historical romance, but that vibe's tapered off a bit in these later stories. It's increasingly clear Mr. Quin is really some kind of supernatural entity that utilizes dramatique to enforce justice... rather like Agatha Christie herself? ^^

Aaahh, I wish we could just read the 1936 storyline! It's so much more compelling than the modern-day storyline. Not that Stevie's story isn't interesting, but compared to the stakes and immediacy of what's happening in 1936, I just feel annoyed whenever we switch back to the awkward teenagers. Also did not enjoy Stevie's panic attack in the previous chapter. Felt so self-indulgent & silly vs murder and kidnapping.

Continued acquaintanceship with Aaron Stewart, aka mini Captain America, is an amazingly compelling reason to go to the Magisterium/continue reading this book/imperil one's life, etc.

Definitely not a cheerful book (even for a murder mystery)--lots of insightful, realistic characterizations, but such a heavy, unhappy set the author's chosen to go with. True, they've all been touched with tragedy so some heaviness is expected, but their whole lives are so uniformly awful (and revolve around the violence and misery women suffer in domestic settings). Well-written, but hard to get through...

Man, this book is heavy. Great writing, and a great job making you feel and understand the unique and wildly varied situations of the folks in each case history quickly, but it took so long to get into the actual crime-solving bit. @_@

Oh my GOD this is getting so good...!! XDDD My gut says it's MF or JW, and that the BM everyone's read is not the MS that OQ wrote. But I still don't know who switched the MSs and how. As to 'why,' so that it would create other murder suspects rather than the most obvious grudge-bearers...?

The amazing thing about the ANGELFALL series is that it doesn't feel like fiction at all. As wildly imaginative and outlandish/crazy as the post-angelic-apocalypse world of ANGELFALL is, there's no hint of an author's self-indulgence, or any wallowing in gruesome details or wish-fulfillment, etc. It's just brutal, eye-opening truth & exploration of a bizarre world that you can totally believe could be real.
