Excellent midpoint revelation of information to the reader. Erikson employs this method so incredibly well. No spoilers, but we get like 4 major storylines all converging while some pretty big historical truths are revealed to the reader (through an unreliable narrator, mind you).

He does this masterfully, it's one of the reasons I love his writing.

The sun was rising, the sorcerous storm over the sea withdrawing from shore to boil black and bruised over the middle of the straits.

What a fucking beautiful sentence. Speak it out loud and feel da rhythm baby.

This reread is taking me ages, for all the best reasons.

Distractions have taken me, locked me away in quiet rooms so that I could focus on tasks piling in my mind.

At last, I am freed from creativity's chains, and it is time to return to this big ol' bad boy.

I want to talk about all the cool shit Erikson does with his writing but that would be spoiling stuff and now I'm stuck sitting here with all these inspiring thoughts, full of happy feels I cannot share. Woe is me...

Good book though, defs check it out. Even better on the reread.

I just couldn't stay away.
These books have been incredibly inspirational for me and I'm so excited to do this second read-through. Planning on starting with Gardens and then following along chronologically (including Esslemonte's novels), noting the expert craft these two authors dish out.

Though, I might put this on the back burner while I check out The Strength of the Few.
Hard choices folks, hard choices.

"Or maybe he was just one of those men who, when finding what he couldn’t have, promptly threw his heart down at its feet, knowing full well it was due for a stomping. A kind of deliberate self-wounding made into a life’s habit."

Don't call me out like that Erikson. C'mon maaaaaaan.

Savory mouthfuls of Azath lore. Om nom nom.. nom.

Absolutely immersed in this chapter. Crazy to me that Erikson can still deliver this level of satisfaction through his information plots and lore exposition. You learn some pretty interesting stuff about the history of this world with BotF and it all gets expanded in depth during all the prequels and sequels, each one written with incredibly gratifying execution.

Diggin' it. (Get it? Erikson was an archaeologists. Archaeologists DIG a lot, get it? It's funny because I'm saying I dig the book and Erikson used to dig a lot. I'm a comedic GENIUS).

Trying to limit how much I share in these updates as to avoid spoilers for others.

Big fan of Nub.
