Nothing is ever new, history keeps repeating, the perpetual fight between fed and states rights, the frustrating genius of the Constitution, too bad current admin does not have just a different interpretation, but a complete disrespect for it. I hate that I have to live through the US's most stupid time.

my critique is alot of style, but in ways of character, no substance for most of them, except for richard, bunny and henry. the others are interchangeable to me. i get that they are friends out of proximity, bc there's no scenes where they genuinely enjoy each other's company, but the way in which richard was enfolded into the group wasn't shown? tartt listed dinners, bdays, but i didn't feel the group getting closer

morrow's first lesson for his students is a call to "throw off the chains of being for an instant", to give into our desires without thought or guilt, that no matter how civilized we try to be, our animal nature lurks dormant inside, perking up at the sight of excitement, chaos, which is why a murder in the prologue only intrigues us more. is it "the group nature of the hysteria" that inspired it?

i'm enjoying this, but why does king have to write so weirdly about young girls sometimes...he keeps describing teenage girls as "ripe" and even referred to a 14 year old child as "the one with the breasts"....why do men have to be so weird?!?!!?!
