And now we all stand and stare at a political system that churns out slogans like advertising copy, at a financial market that is motivated only by greed and profit, at the recent events that don’t move in the linear progressive way expected, realising that underneath the polished veneer of rhetoric that we have been sold, there is – and always was – hollowness. No wonder, then, that we are deeply disillusioned.

ويوصينا الأبيقوريون، شأنهم شأن الرواقيين، أن نتأمل ونتمثَّل، بالغدو والآصال، مأثورات أو خلاصاتٍ مختصرة تتيح لنا أن تبقى المبادئ الأساسية في يدنا. من ذلك على سبيل المثال «الصيغة الشافية الرباعية» Tetrapharmakos: «الرب لا يبثُّ مخاوف، الموت لا يبثُّ همومًا، وبينما الخير سهل المنال فالشر سهل الاحتمال.»

"الشعور بأننا كل شيء والبداهة بأننا لا شيء"

أن السلطة تفسد، ومن باب أولى أن امتلاك سلطة مطلقة هو مرادف للفساد المطلق.

«ما أكثر أولئك المستغرقين بكُليَّتهم في السياسة النضالية، استعدادًا للثورة الاجتماعية! وما أندر أولئك الذين لكي يستعدوا للثورة، يريدون أن يكونوا جديرين بها!»

Our Birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,

أشعر إني على وشك الانفجار مما تهبه لي الحياة وآفاق الموت.
أشعر إني أموت من العزلة، من الحب، من الكراهية ومن كل أشياء الحياة. يبدو إن كل ما يحدث لي جعل مني بالونة مهيَّأة للانفجار.

إذ غدا من البيِّن اليوم أن اللغة تمتلك من السلطة ما لا يمتلكه أي نظام آخر، وذلك من جهة كون اللغة تمثِّل الفضاء الأول لممارسة كل أنواع السُلط، والوسيلة الأمثل لتنقل الخطابات/الأنظمة الفاشية، وخطابات الاضطهاد على المستوى الفردي أو مستوى الدولة.

Like Kahlil Gibran said:

love each other like two pillars supporting the same roof. While looking out on the horizon together, allow space between you and your loved one. Without it, you will suffocate and exhaust your love.

‏هكذا هو الإنسان يا سيدي العزيز. له وجهان، فهو لا يستطيع أن يحب بدون أن يحب نفسه.

realising that the negative emotion is not a fixed reality. It naturally emerges and retreats within the space of your awareness, regardless of your will. Once you awaken to this truth, you will not be swayed by negative emotions and can regard them as a passing cloud instead of identifying with them as a defining part of your self. Do not fight your negative emotions. Observe and befriend them.

إذا لم يتعفف المرء عن كل قول وكل فعل مهما يكن شائنًا؛ فليس عسيرًا أيها الأصدقاء أن نفرّ من وجه الموت، ولكن العسر كل العسر في تجنب الأخلاق الفاسدة؛ فالفساد والموت يعدوان في أعقابنا، ولكن الفساد أسرع من الموت عدوًا.
