this is definitely becoming one of my favorite books ugh it is just so good

up until this point i haven’t wished i read the book first until just now when the “baron ashkenazy” is introduced and you as the reader have to figure out that it’s tateh and you haven’t read ab tateh in a few chapters UGH just so good

but basically the gist of this entire book is that I love it and it is as good as the musical AND I get to know the characters so much better and the writing is beautiful I just wish EL Doctorow believed in commas

we're getting back into it, i read the bulk of this back in april so i'm struggling to remember what all was in that part... but i'm sure i'll get back to it as i move forward, excited to get back into it, very grateful for the character descriptions at the beginning

in district 12 now… things are seeming good but now i’m scared when does coryo become president snow eek… def a page turner i want to finish this today but alas i have to pack :/ will prob finish tmrw (i also need to get this back to the library before i move lol)

still obsessed. pacing is great, character work is amazing, just loving it. 7 tributes left let’s see how this goes

i keep forgetting to update every time I finish reading. Oops but don’t take that as any indication that I don’t like this book because TBH. I think it is now my favorite of the franchise eek!!
it’s very immersive even tho it’s entirely 3rd person and i’ve just been loving the detail and the character development and ugh

currently in the middle of A/S/L - finished Mack the Knife which I liked but it was a bit more boring compared to the other ones, kinda reminded me of what do you do with a general like a sketch of a person and their family and situation without a real plot, but I liked it I haven’t disliked any of these stories

just finished Marion and tbh i think it might be my favorite or tied with the nanny, which makes sense bc i think these were the two cline published in the new yorker, anyways it was SO good but i could be biased bc it reminded me of the girls…reading this much emma cline makes me want to reread the girls but sigh i have so many new books to get through

just finished northeast regional - i really liked this one, prob second to the nanny atp, unfolded like a mystery, the last scene too was unsettling in a good way

just finished arcadia - i liked it but damn maybe short stories aren’t for me bc i just want MORE, but also i feel like the point of this is that the farm is a trap so like the fact that nothing happens other than heddy putting on eyeliner makes sense, makes you feel trapped

just finished son of friedman and the nanny - liked SoF but the nanny is hands down my fav so far, i’m like disappointed that it’s over i want more to happen i want to know more about jessica about what happens next like how does the family move on sigh

just finished the third story (menlo park), this one’s definitely my favorite so far, probably because i am also at this defeated “what’s next” moment in my life, but also a lot of it is just how cline writes as an omnipotent narrator but in the tone of how the protagonist is thinking, and so perfectly describes what it’s like to be waiting and waiting even when busy with something else ugh loved this one

two days ago i read the entire second story on the plane (los angeles), really liked this one it kept me hooked, the ending was weird and ambiguous and got me thinking which is always good, i think i liked it a little better than the first one

finished the first story (what can you do with a general or something like that lol), i liked it a lot but i feel like it could’ve had a stronger ending, a lot of things went said but unexplained which i guess is the point i just like it when those things come to bite you at the end so to speak

sigh disability narrative sigh very well written which makes it sad

note to self don’t read lesbian disability memoir while listening to the pet sounds instrumentals in the car barn einstein unless you want to tear up over your ham and swiss

ugh thea’s chronic illness arc just started and now i’m sad

sooo good, pronouns can get confusing but i think im getting the hang of it

just loving it, Thea just got here so i’m excited
