During a practice match against Date Tech, Kageyama and Hinata try to change despite the awkwardness. Even though it was difficult, they figured out their problems, fixed them, and managed to tie 4-4 overall through eight sets. And then the new year begins, and the Spring High School Volleyball National Tournament begins. Karasuno's Boys Volleyball team goes to Tokyo to compete in the Nationals.

With their ace defenseman, Yaku, injured, Nekoma High School finds themselves in a difficult position. While Tobi Academy relentlessly targets the "hole" in their defense left by Yaku's absence, captain Kuroo shows his determination, believing they have a chance of winning. Tsukasa's 2nd command tries to kill Tsukasa's sister, but Tsukasa steps in the way at the last second.

Thanks to Chrome infiltrating Tsukasa’s camp, Senku might be able to secretly connect with his friends who are acting as moles. Chrome, Amgma, and Gen hide the phone in the plot where Taiju made Senku's "grave". Meanwhile, Senku and others are working feverishly to prepare yet another weapon of science, a car. that they later turn into a tank to try to bust Chrome from Tsukasa's prison.

Senku, Chrome, and Magma's dangerous expedition into a "treasure dungeon" to find rare minerals, which are essential for the creation of a cell phone. Meanwhile, the Grand Bout Martial Arts Tournament approaches, with the chief's throne offered as a prize to the winner!

Upon arriving at Kohaku’s village, Senku schemes to make allies out of the villagers. First up is Chrome, whom Senku wins over after beating him in a scientific battle of wits. Their first big task? Concocting an antibiotic to cure Kohaku’s older sister, Ruri. They start the process to make the antibiotic. They start the process, and they need electricity to make it, so they turn to making a stone-age generator.

Senku, Taiju, & Yuzuriha are well on their way to crafting gunpowder when they spot smoke far off in the distance. Convinced that it’s a sign of other humans, Senku takes a huge risk by sending up a smoke signal of their own. Meanwhile, Tsukasa is determined to stop their progress on gunpowder, and on arriving, he attacked Senku and thought he killed him, but Tsukasa really just hit a bit of petrified hair on Senku.

Every human was turned to stone after 3700 years, two high schoolers woke up from the petrification and found a cure for the petrification. They got chased by lions and revived another high schooler who turns out to be a villain. They fix a girl, and they are working on making gunpowder to combat the villain.

The crew that was still alive got rescued and was taken back to Nantucket. All of the survivors ended up going on more whaling voyages. Pollard, the Captain of the Essex, ran out of luck and sank two more ships. Chase the Right Hand became a captain and went on multiple full cargo voyages. Both ended up retiring. Chase went crazy and died years later. Pollard became a night watchman and lived a little longer.

Main points are that the Essex was attacked and sunk by a massive whale. The crew was forced into small whale boats and are trying to sail to South America. They left three on an island, and four people have died in the whale boats, two being eaten by the starving crew members.

I like the book, but I wish that the author had not put in so many quotations of what was exactly said or what was pulled out of a personal journal. For example, the story would be going on, and a character would say something, and the author would put in what the person said or wrote in their journal in quotations. I do like when he does that for words that they said in "Nantucketer" and he translated it.
