This one is taking forever to get into. I feel like it’s talking in circles for no reason. It’s really difficult to want to pick it back up to read more.

Really not a fan of the fact the author uses “it” to refer to a gender fluid god character. Really? You couldn’t just use they?

The characters still seem very flat. There’s some back story for some of them, but not much. There personalities are super simple and sometimes change from one paragraph to the next. But there’s no life or connection in them, it makes it hard to care for the characters.

Ok the writing has improved which is great but the characters still seem flaky and undefined.

The characters seem... inconsistent. Callan started out as a somewhat humble man just on a mission for his love and then suddenly he’s a callous and pompous king who’s rude and condescending to everyone?

One major pet peeve so far: so many unnecessary words. So much over explaining. I don’t need 3 paragraphs of explaining a simple concept that could have been explained in a single sentence. You don’t need to say a characters name 3 times in a sentence, especially when there are only 2 characters in that scene.

“...Most people would have given up.”
“Maybe I should have.”
“No,” Laverick says thoughtfully. “There will always be monsters. We can’t let them go unchallenged, or why get up in the morning and face the worlds?”

“My mother used to say that life is a blank storybook. You and I are only partially through our story, Evie. We have pages and pages yet to fill. Today is just one day in the many to come.”

“How often do we place all our hopes and dreams on time? We trust that in time, justice will prevail, scars will heal, or wrongs will be forgotten. I haven’t the heart to tell her that time isn’t all-powerful. Some wrongs are never righted, some wounds never heal. We simply learn to live with them.”

“when I look at the scars he has given me, I don’t want to think of how much they hurt. I want to rejoice in how well they have healed.”
