Something deeply funny about this guy going "Yeah I'm on a bunch of grimdark websites like ya know (list of intense gore sites) and also the SCP Foundation."

White authors stop casually butchering Native mythos for works set in America challenge. Difficulty apparently set to "completely impossible."

Things are going too well to be only halfway through this book.

The Wild Folk are such a weird little group. Can't quite figure them out.

Feel bad for Abitha, but also, you're the one who made a deal with a forest spirit. Kind of guaranteed that he's, ya know, wild and dangerous.

Edward is the only puritan I've ever felt bad for. Poor dude. But then, he's fictional, so I guess it makes sense.

Abitha will hopefully keep his advice in mind.

I got to the heartbreak.

Everytime I tell someone who's already read DCC that I'm on this book, they say "Oh, boy. Have you gotten to the heartbreak yet?"

No. No, I have not.

Ok, there may not be any slow books in this series anymore. A lot happens here very quickly!

I love Prepotente so much. He's becoming my favorite character, and I've seen him maybe 4 times.

M's perspective really gives more insight into how monstrous he is because he apparently hides quite a lot from everyone else.

I guess its just the nature of this kind of story, but the timeskip threw me off a bit. Wish we'd gotten the dad's perspective earlier on, but it's still interesting to see how he's processed everything.

Jesus, I'm barely halfway through, and the craziest shit has already happened. This book is gonna end big.

Oh, man. They've gone from choosing to work with teams they can manually balance to being forced to work with a bunch of useless idiots. I don't know how some of these guys even got to this floor.

The shifting perspectives are used well. It's interesting to see this kind of story from more than just the person who starts it all. It'd be very easy to stay with the grieving mom and make it all way more sympathetic, but having her friends and family go "this is weird and crazy" makes it a little more grounded.

So far, it feels like watching the setup in a horror movie.

"Oh, interesting choice you've made there. You should reconsider immediately."

Crichton is fucking crazy because on the one hand, you have John "I would never help humanity because I won't make as much money" Hammond as the guy everyone tolerates, at best. On the other, you have a programmer who reads comics and drinks Coke, so he's clearly the reason everything goes to shit and people die.

Michael. Mike. Please, man. Just one set of normal characters, I beg of you.

Ok, I see why Malcolm had to be Goldblum. The confidence is unmatched, but he has style.

Final stretch. It's tolerable again. Mostly.

Someone has informed me that they, in fact, did not know that "raptor" can be a bird of prey either until the very moment I told them about the prologue. So. I'm trying to be kinder to these characters.

Still. It feels like every Crichton book I've ever read relies on a group of otherwise educated people not knowing a piece of knowledge that (to me) barely even counts as trivia.

Put this book down for a long time. There's just...so much of it. There's so much happening on every level. It feels like something you have to digest for a while before you can go back for more.

Halfway through the prologue: Surely she should know what the word "raptor" means.

Then: Wait, does everyone know what "raptor" means *because* of Jurassic Park??

Immediately after than thought: Fucking of course not, we've called birds than since the 1700s.



Idk, I wasn't around in 1990. Maybe nobody knew about hawks at the time.

there's so much book left oh my god

Poppy has grown on me, and Tingle is still great at making classic twists enjoyable.

Wow, this book is very long to all be written that way. It's gotten pretty old by now.

Tingle once again makes a character that pulls me in, but so far, I don't like her very much.

I really like Katia. I like most of the other allied crawlers too, but I worry Carl's setting himself up to be either heartbroken or betrayed.

Donut is so incredibly "teenage girl with a divorced dad" coded. She makes me so emotional.

Carl is insane, but they're definitely making him look even crazier.

Really hope he's getting all of these people as allies and not setting himself up to be betrayed.

OK, this book is bigger than the last. Considering that and the design of this level, I'm a little concerned for them...
