Crichton is fucking crazy because on the one hand, you have John "I would never help humanity because I won't make as much money" Hammond as the guy everyone tolerates, at best. On the other, you have a programmer who reads comics and drinks Coke, so he's clearly the reason everything goes to shit and people die.

Someone has informed me that they, in fact, did not know that "raptor" can be a bird of prey either until the very moment I told them about the prologue. So. I'm trying to be kinder to these characters.
Still. It feels like every Crichton book I've ever read relies on a group of otherwise educated people not knowing a piece of knowledge that (to me) barely even counts as trivia.

Then: Wait, does everyone know what "raptor" means *because* of Jurassic Park??
Immediately after than thought: Fucking of course not, we've called birds than since the 1700s.
