I’m finding this reading experience very fluid so far - I read for an hour without realising it.

I thought the main character was a girl for the first 35 pages.

Everything feels somehow light despite the awful circumstances - the energy crossed with an earned existentialism creates a kind of bubble around the main characters - occasionally broken by reminders of how young and tragic the protagonists are

Ive been racing through this for the past few days. Really 3 dimensional, interesting perspectives among characters. I feel, though, that at this point Rika's switching perspective has got too repetitive (changing and then changing back as if she never changed in the first place).

I’m really loving this so far!! It’s really hitting the nail on the head with every page and feels like it’s expanding my perpective!! Really inspiring

This is really sweet and profound <3

This poor woman!! I love her

I want to draw the Shinagawa monkey

I’m learning a lot and the descriptions of Napoleons war with Russia are often cripplingly beautiful.

Definitely the “Queen of Spades” is my favourite section so far though and the first section I have liked the least (maybe I just needed a moment to get used to Winterson’s writing style? Who knows).

Literary decision paralysis

So far I’m really loving it, a shame it’s from the man’s perspective but it only bothered me momentarily, the relationships feel fluid and natural enough to more than compensate for this. I’m excited to keep reading!!
