So close to DNF this thing. Lot of typoes. Whiplash from the constant 180s FMC is constantly pulling. A 12-yr age gap is within a generation (generations spanning 15 years) and there is little functional difference between 37 and 49. Half age plus 7 rule (49/2 + 7 = 31.5) puts "he's too young" well above the cutoff.

There is mention of tiki torches being lit to ward off mosquitoes, so it must be summer.

Do nocturnal creatures like vampires "go south" for the summer since Alaska has 24 hours of daylight for about 2 months every summer?

Kindle version is riddled with editing errors. Every "cl" has been rendered as "d" in the eBook.

I’m having some trouble with some of the character personalities. Daya is the concerned friend, telling FMC to call the police about her stalker because of flowers; the next she is telling her not to despite (literally) bloody “gifts;” back to call the police because flowers. It really doesn’t make sense. At least the FMC is always reiterating that she is stupid, so you expect stupid behavior consistently.

“Small talk with the dragon. How are you? Eaten any adventurers lately? Sure, just had one this morning. Look, I still got his femur stuck in my teeth. Is that upsetting to you?”

Vera at Basic Witch is described as having a black skirt around her legs, and then three pages later is described as wearing a brown corduroy skirt. This is just laziness that could’ve been fixed with an editor or even letting friends read it before self-publishing. Massive pet peeve with KU books.

This book is extremely well written, but I am bored to tears. I can’t read more than a couple of pages without my mind starting to wander. This is going to have to get shelved for now.

Sunset is 4-5 pm. Fire and heavy jacket needed at night. But this character is putting on a swimsuit and going onto a lake in a canoe. Yeah, no. Welcome to hypothermia.

And now she’s hiking for six hours in the forest with no food or water. Tell me you’ve never been hiking before without telling me you’ve never been hiking before. Again, simple research.

Already doing a lot of suspending belief. You can’t burn oil paintings, especially in a tiny cabin in a fireplace, unless you want to die a toxic death. You’re also not going to be pulling leeches off yourself if you are on dry ground. Clearly, some simple research could have helped in the first couple chapters.

TW: pet murder in Ch10, not particularly graphic or detailed but happens suddenly and without forewarning

Not sure what changed with the last two books, but there are a lot more stereotypical sleezy men. Like, I hate knowing that Steve is creeping on Reagan and “spanks it” to other people’s girlfriends. He is now a total creeper. I read fantasy smut to get away from modern American male mentalities. Not sure if I’ll be finishing this series at this rate, or even this book, no matter how great the overall story.

I was loving this series right up until Batten was dead but probably not really dead. It's just so...cliche. All of Marnie's romantic interests are toxic as hell, but at least Harry has the excuse he is incapable of love and has a more symbiotic type of relationship with her. Batten was just a tool. I'm disappointed that Batten is probably going to come back just like a bad soap opera plot. Bleh.

Argh, this book is a slog from hell. I am bored to tears and skimming entire chapters. Matthew is a serious dickwad and Diana is a wimpy doormat perfect for Elizabethan England.

I'm already having issues with this book. Lizzie has two dogs but no idea what they are or what they are called. They show up to bark, that's about it. I know more about her neighbor's dog than I do about her dogs - the dogs she lives with 24/7 because she works at home. I have dogs. I work at home. You get a LOT of dog interaction that way. Just sayin'.

Another inconsistency - Narration mentions Sabine and Dalia haven't gotten together as regularly since they were both working, but a few pages later Sabine hasn't worked for weeks/months since returning from NY.

So many inconsistencies...Example: Remy claims vampire skin gets warm after feeding (in reference to Josh) but just a few chapters earlier his skin was still a contrasting cool to Sabine after he had just fed on someone in New York.

Already confused. One has to assume that there are more than, say, 6 people in Sabine's grade, and therefore, many kids are turning 18 the year the "chosen" is, uh, chosen, so why is Sabine such a whiny git about it like she's one of only a couple people in a narrow playing field?

If she doesn't move in until 21 and lives 18 to 21 however she wants, why bother telling the chosen at 18? Why not birth? Or 21?

Wow! I just finished chapter 21 and HOLY FUCK!

I'm not enjoying this book as much as the previous ones. I keep skimming/skipping entire paragraphs out of boredom.
