You know this would honestly have been a good book if early King wasn’t so obsessed with describing minors boners and sexual urges. It’s completely unnecessary and if it was taken out of the book, the same message would have been there.

you think Ig can't have it any worse and then it just get worse. Also not the set up of them meeting during their childhood and how it was a beautiful relationship to then run you over with a train during their last interaction they ever had. Amazing set up.

Never have I thought that someone could shock me with a vampire book, but Caitlin Starling is here and is ready to disturb me LOL

My problem right now is that the book is redundant at times. The changing of prose from lyrical to not as lyrical is disrupting.

It’s starting to get good but like why is the build up taking so long…. I am not fit for slow burn mysteries

Hmmmm. Is it because I’m impatient or is it because it’s just too much pandering.

Sometimes I feel like a lot of nothing is happening but maybe it’s because this is slow burn of a mystery. Idk

Look I’ve been on a depressing book binge and I needed a breather. Igor, Grimalkin, and Cornelia’s budding friendship genuinely feels real and I just love them.

Things have indeed started picking up again. The audiobook narrated by Katie Mulgrew is absolutely superb.

Hmmm.. the last 12% have not been so great. Kinda a snoozeville moment. Hopefully things start kicking up a bit.

You know what I love about medieval horror, is that it tends to read like epics and I LOVE epics. A ragtag group of non believers, Jews, Christians, and a Muslim get sent to Hell. Who will survive? Who will die? Zero idea but I’m so here for this ride.

I know a lot of people say the book is a critique on censorship but honestly, it's more a critique on passive entertainment (tv in this case) that doesn't require critical thinking. If you dumb everything down enough and make it so people don't have to think, it's easier to control people then. The goal to stop critical thinking led to censorship.

Look, the beginning is slow but the build up is phenomenal and when Dietmar encounters the first great monster *chefs kisses*. The payoff is so worth the slow burn. Unapologetically gory, steeped in Greek, Roman, Christian, Arabic, and other Pre-Islamic myths and history, I literally feel like I’m in each and every scene. Gold Star so far.

I have like an hour left in this book and I am loving the chaos that is occurring. I keep laughing and my coworker kept looking over to see what I was up to
