really not quite sure how to feel about this so far. I didn't grow up on TV shows so I have no particular interest in Jennette McCurdy - but I'm still vaguely up to date on gen Z pop culture 1/2

I really wanted to dnf this 4 pages in and call it a porno that only Nabokov should ever attempt to pull off (and Lolita was much more subtle), but somehow people whose reviews I generally respect are really liking this. may have to give this a shot

i can't believe the book is rated so low... as unusual as it is for me to be reading a romance book, i gotta say, this is genuinely one of the greatest feats of contemporary surrealist literary fiction from gen z that i've seen

super experimental and high brow with a satirical edge

convinced it's being 2 starred by legitimate romance fans. this book is not for readers of the romance genre, lol

that said, I brought it with me to read while camping, having thought it would be a relaxing fireside read. I was also really hooked on de Haas' new novel on migration, so I fear I didn't give Pale Fire the attention it deserves

gonna have to reread this - can't enjoy it at all. had to look it up to make sure I even understood what nabokov was going for. now that I know, still not sure if it's possible to enjoy - maybe? IDK. it appears that the point he's trying to make is really coming across based on my reaction to it, but I just don't know if I can enjoy it that way

i want to die at the fact that i'm 150 pages into the second half of anna karenina and only JUST noticed that i was somehow on page 600 something... was so confused until i discovered that the edition i have is the second half of the full novel, and i missed reading a full 500 pages 😐🫩 now i have to go back, i guess....

I enjoy reading Stephen King, but has he ever written a book that doesn't feature the following: A) a masturbating woman, B) the N word, C) a sexualized minor, or D) a couple having sex when no one in their right minds would feel horny at that time?

personally this book just feels like one of those really boring and blandly written novels that people pretend to like because they want to say they've read up on other cultures... but we'll see

making my way through this collection; will write a holistic review/give an overall rating when i've finished all of the short stories, but for now am reviewing them one by one
