captivated from the first page. as soon as the angels were mentioned i knew immediately that this was going to be a wonderful read. also, thomas just fully aurafarming was a nice introduction to the novel. i really enjoy the “swordplay”(?) style of dialogue and the grim, grotesque, barely holy setting.

I feel this book came to me at the right time.

A brutal yet beautiful read so far.

I’m in love with the imagery Yeong-hye illustrates. I feel her rage against the male figures around her. I detest the husband; I’m constantly disgusted by his thoughts, actions, and his behaviour, especially when directed toward Yeong-hye. Kang does an excellent job getting me to feel so negatively about him.

I can feel the heat and smell the dry, smoky dust. there’s something about the writing that makes me feel like I’m there

having just finished the first chapter I’m already incredibly immersed into the dusty and somber world. you can feel weary emotions of uncertainty in the way Steinbeck near poetically describes objects in the environment.

haven’t been so invested in a book in ages, for some reason I can’t stop reading. I feel for Holden. also, “I’m sort of glad they’ve got the atomic bomb invented. If there’s ever another war, I’m going to sit right the hell on top of it. I’ll volunteer for it, I swear to God I will.” real

I find myself chuckling at some parts already. The voice of this novel is incredibly witty, and I feel rather fond of Holden. I feel like I get him already.

lord henry becomes a much more fascinating character to me with every chapter. i love basil but he has a very close competitor.

i’m fascinated by Lord Henry as a character. he also sometimes makes me laugh
