DNF-not for me.
Kit is the new caretaker for an elderly woman who is widely believed, but never proven, to have killed her whole family decades before. Within the first 12-24 hours, she asks the woman multiple times if she’s guilty, they cuddle in bed after a bad dream, and the women is finally ready to tell her story for the first time to this random stranger? I’m just not buying it.

Reading this again because 1) I’ve changed nothing in my life so could clearly use a refresher and 2) this time I’m reading it as a book club with my ***fiancee*** 😌

Such a strong first chapter that got me hooked! Definitely excited to see where this one goes.

A little over a third of the way through this book and I don’t want to keep reading. There’s some disturbingly relevant content (governmental officers detaining and disappearing people) yet despite that I’m finding the pace of this book to be too slow.
The biggest problem is the writing style. The lack of quotation marks and paragraph breaks is driving me crazy.

After 7 months of this book on my nightstand, I’m ready to admit that I’m just not compelled enough by this story to finish it. Mari and I were reading it together so maybe we’ll come back one day? DNF for now.
