Book is finished. Really good read for anyone struggling with identity and self doubt. It accurately explores these types of thoughts and how reality can reaffirm good things without it being sunshine and rainbows. This book leaves a lot of plot on the table on purpose (I think) which doesn’t satisfy the reader if they wanted to know how those parts conclude. However the actions of the lead show growth beginning.

Chapter 16 was the payoff. His meeting with Eri finally gives us answers, and it was so
Heartfelt and satisfying to read. The settling in Finland. The way Eri’s husband treats Tsukuru. The timeline given by Eri was so well done and creates even more obscure conflict for our character. None of it is fair, but it’s realistic, and also one of a kind. Beautiful payoff here

Tsukuru can’t catch a break. After he sees sarah with another man, he almost regresses back into the same pain he’s felt from his major trauma’s. He’s finally made it to Finland in chapter 14. Chapter 14 is a nice departure from a lot of the intensity in this book, his travel is kinda lighthearted and he finally is more present when he eats dinner outside and listens to the accordion player. Was wholesome.

Pretty good, so far the mystery isn’t solved but there are clues .

Tsukuru is now confronting his past friends and learning why he was rejected so many year ago. Strange of course, the reason is shocking as to why and it makes no sense so far. Lots of mystery right now and one insane dream sequence.

Read 2 more chapters. Story is building more now and has already given an amazing story about death and logic. It’s always hard to put this authors chapters into worlds. They feel oddly familiar yet deeply intrusive into your subconscious, in term bringing pieces from within yourself out into the open as you connect your own experiences to these small anecdotes chapter to chapter.

Read the first 3 chapters pretty fast! Liked this authors other book so I figured I try another. A lot more psychological and focused on 1 character. Still an amazing writer and captivates with his ability to directly channel complex and deep layers of human suffering an emotion and put them into short chapters.

Finished the Introduction and understand the authors point and background. This is an experiment of sorts. An important concept of “completing one’s birth” before even thinking of dying. Or the idea that catching up with life and being present IS dying.

Finished and the ending was not really what I was hoping for but what I expected. While it was a good book, i don’t really know how to feel about it. Just a strong sense of longing for development. The lack of development from the characters created a full circle moment at the end. So the book does have a theme but feels almost bleak. It’s kinda this cycle of 2 people who can’t change accepting their fantasy.

The fiesta was crazy and all the drama seems to have unfolded.

So Jake and bill went on the fishing trip which was nice but Robert Cohn didn’t go because he wanted to see Brett . I don’t really get why Brett is like opening being flirty and unfaithful with everyone and she has a husband on the trip who’s aware of that and doesn’t really care? I read the first bull fight chapter which was cool. I saw the connection to the steer and Jake being impotent.

Trip In Spain

Bill and Jake have just entered there inn in burguete for the fishing trip and later bull fighting’s Cohn did not go because he’s supposedly seeing Brett. A lot less adventure so far than previous Hemingway I’ve read. But it documents travel well. Still don’t u destined Jake yet

So far it’s reading just like I predicted a Hemingway to read. Back to the quick and punchy writing style and male main character. Starting to notice a pattern. Reads like a knife through butter🧈

Much has happened. The party made it to the mountain and bilbo spoke with Smaug and Smaug was then killed by hard in lake town. Now the negotiations have begun and the battle of the 5 armies will probably happen soon.

The gang has now entered the liar of Smaug and I just read the scene where bilbo talks to Smaug while looking for his weak spot. Very good and excited to reach the end of this classic story.

Read the chapters about the bear man and then the spiders nest. The spiders and flies chapter felt the longest but showed the most development for bilbo. He seems to shift into an asset for the dwarves more than a weak hobbit! Excited for more!

Just read a short rest, over hill and under hill, and riddles in the dark. All great chapters that lead perfectly into the next. riddles in the dark showcases Tolkien’s more sophisticated writing style, involving far more minute details about gollum, the cave, and bilbos internal dialogue. I also like how Tolkien mentions the ring changes bilbos life forever in this book, before he even wrote lord of the rings.

I’ve seen the movie and know the story like the back of my hand, it’s a shame I haven’t read this when I was younger! It’s great! Just finished the mutton for dinner chapter with the trolls. So fun !

I’ve finished this book! I really liked it and liked that the book takes a more introspective and macro worldview towards the end quarter. The ending was tragic but realistic and I was wondering if harry would interact more with the yachtsman but he didn’t . It really showed that Hemingway has a Macho exterior with a thoughtful and delicate core that shows itself briefly in a breathtaking way.

Really good section on a smuggling journey. Our main man keeps getting hurt

Read to page 112 all in one day. Hemingway has a very consumable writing style that’s a little rough around the edges. Very macho man stories so far and pretty gritty and engaging. He must be doing something right if I’ve read this far in 1 day.

Best segment, most imagination was in this one. Loved the frog and the worm and the whole thing. Super cool!!! Can’t put it into words just great
