About 50% in and this is a chunky one, even by fantasy standards. I’m loving being back in the Harry Potter world, but I realised pretty quickly where the story was heading, and unfortunately the romance is taking away some of the magic for me. The friendships were always the best part of this series for me.There are also some huge plot cuts that had me wondering if I’d accidentally skipped a page or two.

This might be my favourite book of this year. Fingers crossed for the second half.

The kid is getting creepier by the minute, and I’m about three unsettling moments away from abandoning this book like a responsible adult.

Who does that? These type of first chapters should be illegal.

There's something so deeply human about being able to laugh even when your soul is struggling.

This book keeps finding that balance, and it's quietly breaking my heart.

What in the Wattpad hell is this?

I keep picking up first-person romances, and somehow end up with poorly written bully nonsense and the emotional depth of a puddle.

And can we talk about the sentence structure?

I'm finishing this out of pure spite at this point, so expect more complaints to come.

This feels so pretentious. The writing is trying so hard to be flowery and profound that I'm becoming actively aware of every sentence and their unnecessary length.

Also, the contrast between the poetic monologues and the actual characterisation is sending me.

Someone let me know if it gets better.

It started out as a funny villain story, with that cute, chaotic vibe like *Gru* or *Hotel Transylvania*, and I was fully on board. I actually had high hopes for it.

But here I am, stuck at 70% and struggling to make myself finish. The charm that pulled me in at the start just didn’t hold up all the way through.
