Reading in chunks and pieces with Paul Kingsnorth's Against the Machine recently in my mind. Thoreau seems to echo Kingsnorth across time, further cementing this idea of small, free, and unglamorous living in my psyche.
Oppression by the rich is real, but realizing one doesn't have to play the game of consumerism and finding meaning in purchasing power frees one's dusty mind attic for deeper pursuits.
