Ugh, I’m picking apart the book. But I hate when authors don’t pay attention to their own writing. She mentions the single concrete picnic table, and then IMMEDIATELY says that Mickey sits at “a dirty concrete picnic table.” You mean THE picnic table? The one you just mentioned is THE ONLY ONE?

Ha! I was right. It’s Michaela. Teddy is just a fucking moron.

I really don’t understand how she came to the conclusion that Michael A’s name is Michael A when his Reddit username says Michaela, as well as his email: michaela-greeley17. I’d have assumed it was a woman named Michaela. Ya know, because that makes way more sense than assuming it’s Michael A. I get it, he’s probably Mickey, the “boyfriend???,” but Teddy doesn’t know that yet.

The two great bookcases? You’ve already told us there are a great deal more than just two bookcases here, Mr. Peck. You meant the other side of the chasm.

I hate this book. Was the author 14 when he wrote it? I can see this being a DNF. Shame, because the idea of it is amazing and this was one I was impatient to read based on most of the reviews.

For the love of god who the fuck was this guy’s editor?! This description of the room he’s in MAKES NO SENSE. I can’t even begin to picture this. It’s a long hall 12 ft wide…but there’s a railing “along the wall” to keep him from falling into a chasm. I thought there was a wall there? And how can you be on the upper floor of a building if there are floors above you “further than the eye can see?”

We’ve already had several grammatical/punctuation errors and maybe that’s petty, but that irritates the fuck out of me. Where was this guy’s editor? Really interesting how there’s only 5 people in this demon’s office, he gets rid of two of them, and then somehow “one by one people disappeared, some begging, some silent,” until they got to the last guy. So…one silent person? One screaming person? Wtf

Why does this author use “OK” instead of “okay?!” Ugh, it looks so awful. Is this not text speech? It’s so ugly and I want to cry.

I loved The Last House on Needless Street, and so far I’m loving this book, but when Catriona Ward writes from the perspective of a child, it’s very unbelievable. No 12-year-old knows what a scree is (this 38-year-old doesn’t), no 12-year-old describes her surroundings the way Callie does.
