In this chapter Percy overhears Grover and Mr. Brunner talking about him behind his back. They were worried about Percy being alone this summer so Grover tags along with Percy on the way home to NYC. On the way back the bus breaks down and Percy sees three old lady Knitting the Sock of death and cutting the string.

Percy is on a Field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with his class from Yancy Academy. Nancy throws woads of sandwich in Grover’s hair and Percy uses his water powers on Nancy and throws her into the fountain. Ms. Dodds tells Percy to follow her into the museum and then turns into a monster and tries to kill Percy but he slices her in half with Mr. Brunner’s sword and everyone forgets her
