This is a good book. It starts as you'd expect with a lot of maths and probability but ends up talking about human cognition and the way we perceive the world. Very clever.

Slowly, things are picking up.

The other Alis indeed a Nodan.

And now we have a Portiid Tuvix situation 😄

Interesting read so far but sometimes keeping track of the numbers can be tricky 🤣

Still fairly confused by the names and places, but the company side of things is fairly easy to follow which seems to be enough.

Almost certainly reading rather than listening.

The book could definitely provide more context though when switching back and forth.

Very interesting so far, but a couple of complaints.

First, the narrative is quite confusing. We’re hearing about events in multiple regions with no clear explanation of their relation to each other. Same with characters.

The other problems are audiobook specific.

So second is that the narrator needs to quote-unquote because it’s really hard to tell.

Lastly names. In writing fine, in audio much harder.

Short and sweet.

This is a fun read, although some of the topics are only tangentially related to chemistry.

Good fun!

Breezy popular science.

The first half was surprisingly dark with nuclear and chemicals weapons aplenty!

The introduction was a bit rough, very cartoon-y or a bit too casual like Nuts & Bolts.

Chapter 1 going better though. Fingers crossed!

This is a great book.

It starts off with a fairly basic description of fast / system 1 and slow / system 2 thinking and then builds psychological effect after effect on them. It takes tours through psychology, economics and eventually politics.

Endlessly fascinating.

Also a sort of love letter to a dear colleague. I expected more of Amos at the end!

The English were soon known as X (sister fucker) and Y (daughter fucker) which my modest language will not interpret…

Don’t worry, your audio book narrator did it for you 🤣

Okay, so.
Kott is Hartland’s Gaia.
The ark ship seeds Hartland with human life.
The panspecies ship crashed for whatever reason.

Maybe Hartland traps passing ships because they’re all assumed to be Hartmand’s disciples?

Hmmm.

Ah yes, the final signal. A staple of these books.

I wonder if the second version of Alis is Nodan? 🤔

This is a slow start. 1/4 of the way in and it still feels like setup.

Wow, what a book.

A great interwoven narrative, immersive story telling and some heart -breaking and -warming twists and turns.

When Bryan went looking for his father ai almost shouted out loud not to do it 🤣 I was so relieved it was an aerial survey and not yet another suicide march into the green hell.

Only at the end did I remember that I’d hear about the interconnected cities etc.

Amazing stuff.

Less than 1% in and we’ve called the natives of South America “indians” 🤣😬

So another life based operating system, BugOS this time, and another Kern by the look of things.

Name is even similar. Kern, Kott, potato, potato.

So far, so fascinating.

I knew about a lot of these mechanisms but the description of how they work together is really eye opening.

This book is a little basic and is not really grabbing me after a chapter and a bit.

Do, at about the 90% mark I searched for the critical response to this book given the amount of yada yada ing. This is when I realised I had missed book 12 🤣

Kind of crazy that I could have missed an entire book and only noticed occasional inconsistencies and apparently skipped plot lines.

Will read it when I’m finished with the rest 🤣

Lanfear appearing in Rand’a dreams is a trick, I assume, given we’ve seen her reincarnated and hanging around with Moridin.

The Verin letter was pretty stupid. Why not just say if I’m not back in a day open this? Or just tell Mat the whole story before setting off.

Overall the epilogue was a bit underwhelming.

So Semirhage is dead? Last time we saw her she’d been captured.
