Do, at about the 90% mark I searched for the critical response to this book given the amount of yada yada ing. This is when I realised I had missed book 12 🤣

Kind of crazy that I could have missed an entire book and only noticed occasional inconsistencies and apparently skipped plot lines.

Will read it when I’m finished with the rest 🤣

Lanfear appearing in Rand’a dreams is a trick, I assume, given we’ve seen her reincarnated and hanging around with Moridin.

The Verin letter was pretty stupid. Why not just say if I’m not back in a day open this? Or just tell Mat the whole story before setting off.

Overall the epilogue was a bit underwhelming.

So Semirhage is dead? Last time we saw her she’d been captured.

I wasn’t sure what format or tone this book would have but so far the history of the humble nailing has been good fun! I bet the chapter on rivets is… also good 😄

An interesting read so far - part Victorian Icelandic travelogue and part history of science essay with occasional detours into anthropology.

Fascinating and bizarre to imagine that in the 1800s people thought it was impossible for a species to become extinct due to non-divine reasons. Love the idea of extinct species actually just hiding somewhere 🤦‍♂️😂

Almost finished, somehow.

This has been an entertaining and informative read which re-contextualises the Norman conquest as just another invasion in a long series of invasions and take overs of England.

Dain Bornhald’s arc has been very satisfying.

Perrin’s POV refers to the world of dreams as tel'aran'rhiod even though I don’t think he’s ever heard that word before? It’s always been the wolf dream 🤔

Gawyn 3-on-1-ing these Seanchan super assassins is very silly.

More generally a lot of Sanderson’s writing here feels like this (e.g. Perrin and the Whitecloaks) - things happen just because. There has been a small, but notable, dip in quality.

And the yada yada of previous major plotlines is ridiculous.

Just summarising the end of Roman Britain so far.

The book has an easy, accessible style but has also been packed full of facts. A good mix.

A great read overall.

My eyes glazed a little bit in the later chapter that went into the specifics of all the fields, symmetries and interactions of the Higgs mechanism but mostly this was very accessible.

Only complaint is the Audible narrator pronouncing “long lived” as “long live-d” 🤣

So Perrin is going to take a dome that he knows affects channeling and plant it in the White Tower to fight Slayer in the world of dreams at the same time that the Aes Sidai are under attack from the Forsaken?

Great tour of particle physics, CERN and the LHC so far but the book may have peaked with the Audible narrator actually doing the Insane Clown Posse rap 😂

Ah, there it is. The great Cadsuane and Sorilea cliffhanger about them teaching Rand to love and laugh again “resolved” in a throwaway sentence after several books of studiously not being mentioned 🤣

Perrin’s story should be interesting and engaging but… it just isn’t. Not the same extent as Mat or Egwene or any of the other main characters.

A fun read, from the early days of manually controlled telescopes with an observer suspended at the prime focus to the era of queue-based and robotic telescopes.

Full of interesting factoids and anecdotes.

An upbeat start, seems like this will be a fun read.

Holy shit, Sobel’s after the war section is awful.
