Chapter 25
168-169 I'm glad we understand just a little more about how damage works for the soul reaper.
178-183 Finally, some good fathering is happening. It's coated in a bunch of bullshit, but it gave Ichigo some good resolve.
184-185 These hollows look vaguely human. I wonder if they are soul reapers or something else entirely.

162-163 I hate this dad so much. He boils my damn blood, I swear. No care for Ichigo, no wonder Ichigo has no care for himself.

150-151 What the fuck is happening with Orihime, she's just 15, when was she evicted?
151-153 I don't like how much Orihime does things alone. I worry for her.
158 I hate that Ichigo just expects Rukia to know what he means. I feel for her so much as my high-functioning autist queen. How was she supposed to know he didn't mean that shit and not have a mental crisis?

134-141 There's something big that's keeping Rukia from rushing in to help Ichigo, but we don't know who/what that is. But it seems crippling for her normal self.

116-122 I'm glad Ichigo is meeting his match pretty early. He may have a lot of spiritual energy, but he's just shit at fighting Hollows. I think Rukia may be letting him on his own too much.
124-125 I think Karin is finally going to remember something about the Hollows.
127 I don't ever think a move like this would work on me. I always think I could mental through tricks like this.

Chapter 21
98-107 I think the circumstances around Ichigo's mother's death are supposed to make me feel his same rage, but the feeling feels muted. Like it isn't being shown well enough in the action to convey it. All Ichigo can really do is "Big Swing," and that's kinda what he always does.

66 I think we gotta kill this dad, team.
74-76 I love Rukia after reflection. She feels so high-functioning autist, I swear I do this all the time. Messing up, then reflecting on it.
78-82 I think at this point they should let the sisters remember about hollows. The second time they've almost died to them its a wonder this hasn't happened more often. Maybe it has, and no one remembers.

47-49 Glad to see Rukia is reflecting on herself. I think the latter parts of this Vol. kind of lessen this emotional beat. She should learn to see the real physical world, rather than just thinking about souls.
55 I need to have words with this Dad, like setting up his whole family for trauma.
60-61 I think the emotional fall out of these characters to thiewr mother dying is really well done

31-32 I wonder why Ichigo's Dad is so unserious. It must have something to do with his wife's passing.
33-35 I would be so mad at Rukia, not kidding, I would tell her to leave.
41-42 This is the most haunting image of all time. He was nine, where was hsi fuckin Dad. I feel awful.

13 Boo, this gross anime perv stuff is here. Kon, I thought you were cool.
19 Orihime is the best character in the whole manga
21-23 This whole thing is so, daungthing. Great use of empty space to hold a kind of stillness in the air. Seeing Karin and Yuzu sleep together the night before makes me well up.
22-25 The hash shading on everything in this chapter sets the whole volume up so well.

Chapter 16
167-179 Seeing the mods' morality in action is really great. He sees the life of a game character as worthwhile as the boys who killed it and as worthwhile as the ants the Hollow almost crushed.
183-185 Interesting that, Rukia, with more context to the mod soul opts to keep him alive. I wonder how important that decision will be to the rest of the story in later volumes.

Chapter 15
155-158 Ichiog's ideals once again clash with the Soul Society's ideas of law and order. Rukia sides with them, while Ichigo's literal first thought for the soul that took his body is if he's enjoying himself. It's a great look into how Ichigo takes everything as he sees it, while Rukia thinks of all things in the greater scope of the context they exist within.
163-164 Ururu flinching makes me sad.

128 I think this is really good misdirection on what the soul in Ichigo's body will do or act like.
134-136 I have immense gender envy for Orihime. She's so silly in a way I wish I could have lived my high school life.

117 Interesting to see the Soul Society gives names to Hollows that aren't thier human names. They make a great effort to separate Hollows from Humans.
121-124 It's fun seeing them be silly and like high schoolers for a second, even if Rukia isn't.

94-99 It's so cool that the soul society forgives hollows of the crimes the do as monsters, but a real hell exists for those who deserve it. The scale of the gates of hell is insane, and makes me wonder what the maximum size of anything in this manga may be.
103-104 I wonder if Chad is seeing Yuichi here, or if he's just guessing like he did with the Hollow.

76- 82 Its intresting to see how much human action Hollows can still have. Even as a Hollow, the serial killer still takes joy in killing and makes plans to kill more. Instead of being an emotionless monster, he still finds joy in tormenting the weak, like the wounded Rukia or Yuichi

62 This Hollow becomes more and more depolrable when he talks. I think him getting off to the 15-year-old-looking Rukia is very intentional and very gross.

31 Very distressing to see how the death of Ichigo's mom has fractured thier family. I can't quite tell when she died, but Karin was at least seven, and she's just separated herself from needing care.
36-37 Immediately, as this hollow speaks, you can feel the malice from it, more than the others we've seen.
38-46 Chad brings up so many questions about himself. Why is he strong? Why can he see souls?

16-19 Really like the visual of finding a soul in this
24-26 At first, I didn't understand why Karin became sick in the beginning, but imagining reliving the murder of "your" mother through the eyes of a terrified child, when you also lost your mom at such a young age, must do something to you. Bleach shows its characters as full humans frequently.

128-130 Cool first glimpse of Ichigo's first thoughts in a difficult battle. Shows his character, how quickly he is to identify and look for civilians.
135-143 Sora immediately plays on one of my greatest fears, that someone I love will just become a twisted evil version of thier own wants and dreams. It reminds me of the D&D explanation of vampirism.

116-118 This explanation makes hollows seem so evil. To think anyone could become a hollow if they aren't taken care of is haunting.
119-123 Being a normal human as a hollow hunts you looks terrifying. Truly a story from a horror novel.

89 - 95 Orihime might be the most relatable anime woman to date. Big, gets into accidents and daydreams all the time. That's her.
100 - 106 The idea of fighting hollows of people you knew, or seeing them turned into such a monster, is a neat bit of world-building. Also, seeing the consequences of Ichigo's slacking or reliance on brute force, meeting Rukia's overabundance of caution is a good payoff.

Very interesting philosophical start for Ichigo and Rukia. Ichigo being unwilling to be self-sacrificing for souls, and Rukia is so self-sacrificing that she's stripped away her own power to do that. Who knows how long Ichigo will feel a debt?
