Aliens are not very alien. Except for a small physical difference they are human. They speak, think, act and live just like humans. They can interbreed with humans. These alien civilizations are important to the story plot making it tough to finish this book.

Fast travel without technology or passible science is magic.

Well written, character driven. Comic book style science fiction story missing the science, a fantasy in space. Aliens but in name only.

It's not a bad story but the plot is poorly executed.

LOL, OK he has a GPS with cache locations but no satellite phone to contact the others like him. Hope he has a way to keep that GPS receiver charged up or a paper map and compass for a backup.

I am enjoying the story but the premise doesn't make any sense. Where is his support and he has less resources then the average prepper. The gov would have given him a lot more. More information, satellite communication, military grade vehicles, a hardened house. No contingencies, no support network, no relationships or family, and no plan.

No outside security cameras? Internet access but unable to discover current conditions because only visits cnn and porn site. Where is Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, or any number of forums or email. A mission box with a prerecorded message that specifically addresses the situation he walks into?

OMG No, Deus ex machina so bad...

Getting tedious but there is enough good stuff here to keep going. All the hype and the the film options sold before publication. Christopher Paolini is a better businessman then a author. Might be a good movie if he is a good screenwriter.

Enjoying this more after realizing I am reading above average military science fiction and not a space opera. Single POV and limited world and character building.
