This might the first book where I’m truly sobbing from page one. Every single line is so painful to read because all of this actually happened and it’s horrifying

I’m not sure how I feel about the author; she mentions how aquariums often train animals to perform unnatural behaviors so that they would be more visible to the public but it was more matter-of-fact as opposed to discussing how this could be (an is imo) an ethical issue. She herself perpetuates the theatrics of it and it sometimes feels like she only finds octopodes interesting when they perform for her.

LOL I like the writing style it doesn’t feel like a textbook and more like a story and I’ve already learned so much. It’s so funny that octopodes get bored really quickly so aquarists have to constantly come up with new puzzles or they’ll damage the tank and break out. Be free 🐙

this feels so apt to read rn given the state of ai…seems to be exploration on what makes humans human

Idk why it’s putting me off that Stephen King keeps getting mentioned like we get it you need the next horror masterpiece. Also I know the author is a king fan but mentioning him a million times doesn’t automatically make your story stronger

Good so far, the sister dynamics are interesting and it’s giving re-found family vibes. I will say though that Simone is insufferable and I’m praying she goes through a character arc to be better.

The science isn’t too bad so far, it’s kinda fun and I feel smort for knowing and understanding most of this

Insufferable characters and “relationships”. Why are you in a decade long relationship and just NOW realizing there’s no sexual compatibility?? You sure as hell didn’t spend all that time developing a real connection if that’s the reason you broke up. Also why are you peddling your ex of ONE WEEK to your BEST FRIEND and insisting they have sex because they have the same kinks?? This is all so fucking weird

this feels like a wattpad story and I already feel like I’m gonna rate this low

maybe im the grinch bc I can’t take the Christmas ghost seriously. The writing feels kind of juvenile but I’m still interested to see how this develops

ummmm this is trippy af and im so here for it. I definitely see some similarities between this and Dark Matter in terms of story setup but already I can see how it’s so much better in this book. This has the beginnings of a five star read.

so far it’s a bit slow but I can see the beginnings of something off and weird. Still have yet to see how this is one of his scariest books

Okay so I just learned this author has published another book which has anti watermelon propoganda and I’m so deeply disappointed. I still find this story to be beautiful but in good faith I don’t think I can read her other works

This is such a sweet story so far and I’m learning so many things about math I had forgotten or didn’t know about before. I definitely got a bit emotional at some parts

This is a good book to channel all of my depression into. It picked up in the second half and I found myself reacting out loud which is rare. It feels nice to feel something because of a book and not life.

I’m not usually a fan of long exposition, but it works well for this story. I’m enjoying getting to know all of the characters and I find the jump in perspectives on an hour by hour basis super cool. It’s definitely creepy but I wasn’t scared while I was reading the book UNTIL I went to sleep. I woke up with nightmares about this book and I’m not even in the main conflict yet 😀

Didn’t realize I was already here, the vibes are old time eerie and I’m here for it
