Just beautiful
The writing is everything I love. Beautiful sentences, interweaving knot of insights with surprising ways to construct memory and timelines. And portable.

Grand unified theories more often flatten history, philosophy and spirituality.

I’ve become more skeptical of them the older I get.

We need the questions that drove kingsnorth more than the answers.

Maria Weir is finished with Stone Yard Devotional
This dovetails beautifully with themes in my life right now - forgiveness, grief, atheism and women in faith.

Maria Weir is starting Forgiving What You Can't Forget: Discover How to Move On, Make Peace with Painful Memories, and Create a Life That’s Beautiful Again
I'm about 40% of the way through this.
Gosh it's preachy and needs more show don't tell, more research-based information. It's more like one of those pep talks from a friend who wants you to get through and it's just too easy to tune it out because it's sort of annoying.

Oh my
The insecurity that leads to constant envy in this book, about accomplishment, about writing, about ambition
Just wow

This!
I’ve been writing columns in this topic but this provides both the context, the research and the proposed solutions!

Maria Weir is finished with Lessons for Survival: Mothering Against "The Apocalypse"
One of the fun discoveries? That this is Albert Raboteau's daughter. He converted to Orthodox Christianity later in his life.
Initially, I thought this would be one more "lament" piece - I use lament when sometimes writers strike me as complaining - but her writing has some lovely usefulness.

Maria Weir is starting Devout: A Memoir of Doubt
Her brain seems so familiar to mine
I mean I was scared of the damage my mental unhealth would do
And I do think my kids will be adjusting their entire lives, but also her ability to smell out the bs of thought-ending cliches and still work on an authentic faith in God encourages me

Then ending with St Isaac of Nineveh
