“The most important person is always the person you are with…”. I loved this chapter. It discussed how everyday our base intention should be to be kind and present with those around us.

“Look at all beings with the eyes of compassion.”

“We are life, and life is limitless.” Chapter discussed interdependence and how we cannot escape suffering until we lose the boundaries of distinction. We are life and death, we are every person we encounter.

The plot keeps getting thicker omg. Did a deep dive on the Berlin Wall and state of Germany during this time, and knowing that history definitely enriches the reading experience. Crazy stuff

Chapter 4 - The Pebble. In meditation it may help to envision one’s self as a pebble sinking in water. In each session, the moment you find calm mindfulness in mind and feel truly at rest is when you have reached the sand. This chapter also discussed proper sitting techniques and the importance of mindfulness of feeling alongside mindfulness of breath.

Amazing story telling and I love all the characters

Chapter 3 - Dedicating one day a week to practice mindfulness throughout the entire day. From a slow and breath focused rise from bed in the morning to meditation at night.

These teachings resonate and are insightful but would take commitment to see the benefit and is difficult having not a consistent schedule. TBD but just reading his words feels powerful

Lowkey hack-ey for my book count that this manga is broken up into volumes cause each volume is pretty short, but I’m excited to burn thru this cause it’s so good.

“They say proper breathing is more important than food.”

“If while washing dishes, we think only of the cup of tea that awaits us… we are not alive during the time we are washing the dishes.”

I just read the translator’s preface by Mobi Ho and I’m feeling very excited to get into this book. He mentioned that Thich Nhat Hanh recommended that he write the translation slow and steady, in order to maintain mindfulness. I want to apply that same practice to reading this book, going slow and steady. One chapter per sitting, with time reserved to sit in reflection after.

It’s very inspiring that many of the most special things in her life occurred in her late 20s. Cynthia had not even seen Wicked until 25, to then kill the role in a film seen all around the world when she was 37. She did not start dating women until her late 20s. None of this to say postpone life, but it’s a reminder that we are never stuck. So long as we’re alive, every day can be a new beginning
