So the audiobook isn’t going to work for me on this one. I’m intrigued though so I’ll read the book. The narrator just irritated me and I got second hand embarrassment listening to her voice the “love” scenes.

Audiobook narrator is not working for me. I will just get the book and read it that way.

Am I low key fangirling because three of my favorite characters from ACOTAR are in this book? Yup. And not being very low key about it TBH

Second read/listen because I want to get the final book and forgot what Is happening in this world. I gave this book 4 stars the first read/listen and honestly I’m not sure why. I have no idea what is happening in this book a dim half way through. The MC is such a pain in the ass. Could be the narrator and her overly dramatic reading style. But then again…Cat is just too much. I’m over her.

Listening to the audiobook. While far from the worst narrator I’ve heard, the person who narrates Abby’s chapters/portions is difficult to listen to. Her voice is great but her inflections and pauses at awkward intervals are really irritating.

Holy overacting!!!! This narrator is doing the absolute MOST reading this book. It is absolutely not necessary to put so much emotion into a reading. The parts that should have inspired some emotion into me as the reader/listener ended up being so freaking annoying because of this narrator. FFS. Good story otherwise! But maybe better read than listened to. 🤦🏼‍♀️

With all the jumping to conclusions Pip does, I’m surprised she is ever able to get anything else accomplished. I hate that in any character but especially in a main character that is supposedly a freaking genius. I listened to the audiobooks of this so maybe a lot of my irritation of Pip comes from the narrator, who’s voice is nerve grating anyway, but Pip still has too many idiotic inner monologues.

1. If this girl doesn't get smarter and stop with the inner monologues & self-reflection at every blink of her eye, then I won't finish this series. She's got the potential to be a badass. Presently, she's just irritating.
2. I hate love triangles. They are wholly unnecessary in most stories, including this one. All it does is point out our MC's stupidity even more.
I like the plot. Just hope it gets better.

This author is incredible. She's one of the best authors I've read. Ever. This book is no exception. Though some of the slang is bugging me since it wasn't really around in the time period this book is supposed to take place in. Like boujee. And dap. Those terms weren't around - at least not in my town/area (Detroit area) during the late 90s, tho they are used now.

Fucking Abby. She wants to help her friend, who has a fucking DEMON possessing her, but when the exorcist is really getting going, she tries stopping him, argues with him, talks with the demon possessed girl despite being told not to interact with it, and generally acts like an idiot. I can't stand her. Glad it's almost done.

There is a difference between being a martyr and being an idiot. I hate reading books where the choice the main character makes is the latter - though they truly believe it's the former!

Listening to this during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 (aka the year that sucks so much), this book is playing out eerily familiar to real life.

This chick! She really needs to maybe read some books on relationships - but one of the top rules for a happy marriage is not choosing some other guy over your husband. This book just got frustrating. I'm tempted to just stop reading. Stupid women just piss me off and this one is on that level right now.

I have a hard time with weak-willed stupid lead female characters. Celestine has had a few moments where I just wanted to smack her fool head - especially when it comes to Art and the dumbass kids from school. Because THAT pain is more intense than the brandings. Maybe I'm too cynical, but come on! This girl is supposed to be smart. Start acting like it!!!!

Gah this girl is stupid. How did she come from such a brilliant, devious woman? I know if I was on the run, trying to remain on the DL, I'd certainly go to a local bar where I'm the only woman. Heck yes. And her inability to converse is impressive. I swear the story needs to turn a major corner with this one or else I'm throwing in the towel and be all irritated about the time lost listening to it...
