by the end of part one i feel dearer to the thomas hudson story than i thought i would be.
you lose someone you truly love, the little boy who was so close to becoming a man and everyone could see it, then he dies of an accident, and then you realize you can read new yorker on the fourth day of their passing. that ending was wow.

my favorite part so far:
normal people: be kind because it’s the right thing to do
hemingway: be kind because being rude doesn’t help you catch a fish

reading hemingway and works of other early 20th century male writers has never been easy like what do you mean someone got beat up bc he just wants some mf’s shooting flare guns on the dock to quiet down a bit so his wife can sleep

This is intimate enough to hurt. Even if you strip off the sa parts this resembles too much of an actual diary of a girl going through her teenage yrs—wondering if any thoughts you have are sinful or normal. The vengeful personality rebuild to protect yourself against the hurt that the world has caused. The difference is that nothing and no one will help Laura bc she’s fighting something too much bigger than her.
