Only 225 pages in, and I'm already almost at my heavy-handed Catholic-allegory limit. This is going to take a while.

This book is starting to slog a bit. 😭 So much desert wandering.

Fuck this book is good. Usually I can't stand "lost and wandering" storylines, but Erikson drags it out just enough to give a proper sense of desperation, without it just becoming boring to read.

I continue to find this book a little confusing and difficult to follow. But still, I am absolutely obsessed. Incredible, incredible world building.

Finished Part One: Earth. This translation is so unbelievably better than the previous one I read. I did not realize how abridged it had been, which explains the pacing issues I thought it had.

Also, this is way better translated in general. It is not as whitewashed as the earlier translation was. There is still the odd Scottish vernacular usage, but that tapers off as the story progresses.

This book is fairly difficult to follow so far, but I'm hooked. The world building seems so good, and the setting is really intriguing.

Started reading this because I am reading Steel Gods too quickly. Need to savor it more.

I am so excited to finally have an unabridged translation of this book!! Already I can tell how horribly condensed that other edition I read was.

Only kinda complaint is, I guess the translator is Scottish? There's a lot of British & Scottish vernacular used, so it's difficult not to give every character a Scottish accent lol.

Thoroughly enjoying these stories so far. The setting is right up my alley right now (Heian-era Japan, similar to the Heike Story I am also reading), and the protagonist is competent, but not a Gary Stu. Not as fantastical as I was thinking it would be, but I'm okay with it. Good bits of folklore, too.
