Right now I am absolutely loving this book. I feel like I’ve finally picked up on Erikson’s writing and while still challenging, it is flowing like it never has. Only two hundred something pages in and the reveals are going ham. If the whole book keeps up like this it is definitely a five star. This shit is gas.

This book is so fucking confusing. It’s like really good in the moments it being really confusing. I don’t know if it’s just a skill issue or what but I struggle with it fairly frequently. The themes, environment, magic, and lore are all very interesting if not very overwhelming, and by god there are so many characters. What are you gonna do lol. Got myself into this shit. It is good though.

Currently out with Henri talking about the book. The most concise way I can put my feelings on the book right now are disappointed. Just not a lot to love. Going to continue because I’ve gotten this far but jeez it is a struggle.

Progress is slow on this with Stormlight in the mix, but the small amount I have made I’ve greatly enjoyed. Such an odd writing style yet I’m finding myself craving it more and more. Just hit Part 2 and I really enjoyed the sort of fake out ending of Part 1. We got some shit going on and I always like that. That’s all. I got for now.

This last 100 pages or so have felt kinda slow. Don’t really know what to write in my updates anymore. Shit’s just chugging along. People are doing things, in places, at times. While it’s decent at this moment I’m really missing the magic and drive from the first couple books. Still love the character moments that hit, but they are few and far between it feels like.

So far it is still just a lot to take in. I’ve gotten a little better at understanding what is being presented in the way Erikson writes it, but overall still quite confounding. I do still enjoy it and I’m starting to really like these new characters that have been introduced. I am excited to see what is going to happen as the go farther a long the path of the hand I think? Good enough.

For me Oathbringer did not hit. There were moments few and far between that struck deep for me. Maybe that was just my first experience and it is better than I remember, but so far Rhythm of War has been hitting. The emotional moments are popping off, and there are some plot moments that are getting me too! Really quite enjoying this book so far. Also looking forward to the more technical elements being introduced.

Still getting whatever bearings there are to be had, but Coltaine is sick as fuck dude. This guy is what I want from the series. That being, sick ass dialogue.

Still challenging but I am growing more and more to love his prose. Erikson just feels like he aura farms every other line, with either badass, depressing, cosmic, or personal lines. It’s what keeps me going, along with just keeping up with the various character motivations and alliances. This book really does feel like a puzzle and when the pieces snap into place, it feels great.

A little too much time on the ship for my liking, but at least we’re getting somewhere now. It’s fine so far, nothing super crazy besides the one twist which was good. Prob gonna finish next week so we’ll see about the rest.

This book is confusiiiiiing. I know like nothing and he keeps saying shit. I’ve heard that it all comes together so I’m waiting for that, and besides all of the confusion I do still really like it. The atmosphere and characters are the highlights, for now the prose is intriguing but zigzags a little too much.

I’m enjoying it so far. I really like Rysn as a character, and it’s already starting to heat up a little bit with that last chapter. The only thing is Rysn’s self consciousness with her disability is a little heavy handed. I get that it has a great impact on her, but the way Sanderson mentions it constantly feels like it lacks the weight it deserves.

I think the magic of the first two books is gone for me. I lack that internal driving force to figure out what is going on, and the rewarding payoff for doing so. That being said I don’t hate this book, it is just different. Much more politicy which is fine, but since I don’t know nearly anything about Roshar I feel like I’m just being told why things should happen. I still like it, but need to reframe my mind.

God this shit is fucking heart wrenching. It’s like it shows how in war not only are innocents murdered in great quantity, but it also brings so much pain and sorrow to so many people who have to still live on. Picking up the pieces of what was left before them. Just fucking crazy.

I have a feeling this is not a happy book. Twice now at the end of a chapter Kestrel says in no uncertain terms, things are going to get worse. I’m not even sure there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, and that is very possibly how people felt in World War 2.

Yeah man I mean aside from all the confusing as fuck things I really like it. Very much enjoying Erikson’s prose and stepping into this world of death and decay feels very cool. I don’t know if he will ever let up in the presentation, so I’m not sure if I will get exhausted of it or just keep enjoying it, but we’ll see

Ok bruh, damn… What just happened definitely recontextualized a lot of what I just read. That was an act two if I’ve ever seen one. Almighty dude, shit was real crazy real fast.

Little pre-reading thoughts. I have glanced at the first couple sentences. I am intimidated, I have a feeling I will be understanding this book very badly. I want to enjoy it regardless though.

I got to be honest for me it is dragging. I think it is maybe just exhaustion from reading straight through the Stormlight Archive, but a lot of what is going on I’m struggling to care about what’s happening. I still do, like I still do, but for some reason I am getting slightly disillusioned with the huge buildup huge payoff. Of course that will probably all change when I get that huge payoff soon we’ll see.

Really enjoying it. For some reason I didn’t think I would like crime novels. Probably my distaste for coppers, but something about this writing is just addicting and enamoring. You could call me a duck because I am eating these breadcrumbs right up.

Has all the trappings of a gruff crime novel. Kind of think I am in the perfect mood for that so glad I have started. Have heard great things about this book so excited to see what it has to offer.

Not sure how to feel about this book right now. It’s obviously still really good. Just so early on I kinda don’t know where the plot is heading. I’m enjoying Dalinar’s character as I get to see what has kinda been going on in the background this whole time.

I enjoyed the first part. Definitely felt long with some unnecessary bits, but from what i’ve learned of Sanderson’s writing is that most of the time a lot of the seemingly unnecessary stuff is actually very important. I continue on.

So far, really good. Got a decent chunk done today and who knows I may read even more. With book 2 I wasn’t crazy about where the characters started out, but in this book I am a much bigger fan and it feels like I’m now to the point in the series where it is just compounding upon itself. My only complaint right now is the Dalinar flashbacks, but after this most recent one I think I’ll be enjoying them much more
