Now that I’m mostly out of my slump I have become very impressed by this book. I think I find large scale battles mostly uninteresting and a slog. Now I don’t know why I would pick epic fantasy as a genre if I don’t like large scale battles but I think for me the worldbuilding wins out, and boy is this book delivering on that front for me. That and the character moments are top of their class.

Trying to get back into this book because at my current pace it would take me like six months… When I give this book the time it deserves I do get really enthralled. The trouble is that barrier for entry can be quite the obstacle. Luckily I’ve had a good couple of days and made some good progress. Really liking it right now. I do much prefer the chapters with Whiskeyjack and the like but I’m holding out!

I definitely feel more of a slump now than I have had with this book. Things aren’t really slowing down or anything and honestly I feel like the pacing in this book is really well done due to the nature of Erikson’s writing where he puts you in the middle of things. I find myself saying, “This is happening already?” The thing I struggle with is it unironically puts me to sleep. Regardless I will press on.

Right now I am absolutely loving this book. I feel like I’ve finally picked up on Erikson’s writing and while still challenging, it is flowing like it never has. Only two hundred something pages in and the reveals are going ham. If the whole book keeps up like this it is definitely a five star. This shit is gas.
