"Hills like White Elephants" tore me apart and destroyed me. Made me stop eating while listening to the audiobook, and made me relisten to it twice. God the dialogue is so painful, impactful and well-written. Even if you don't read the whole collection, just read this short story. Once i figured it out by the end of my final listen, I was genuinely dumbfounded. One of my favourite pieces of writing ever

Hemingway never makes me question why he's my favourite. "In Another Country" is so beautiful well written, Hemingway always knew how to perfect his descriptions. The ending caught me so offguard, such a sudden conclusion.

"I do not hear of men being forced to live this way or that by masses of men. What sort of life were that to live? When I meet a government which says to me, “Your money or your life,” why should I be in haste to give it my money?"

"If the tax-gatherer, or any other public officer, asks me, as one has done, “But what shall I do?” my answer is, “If you really wish to do any thing, resign your office.” When the subject has refused allegiance, and the officer has resigned his office, then the revolution is accomplished. But even suppose blood should flow. Is there not a sort of blood shed when the conscience is wounded?"

Really enjoyed the first story. Ernest Hemingway never fails to surprise me with his beautifully immersive books. Shaping up to a very lengthy review.

During some research, I discovered Ella Wheeler Wilcox while looking at movie quotes, and I couldn't have been more lucky. I have always criticized most English poetry for being soulless and dead, unlike some of my favorite poetry which happens to be Kurdish and Arabic; However, I have been proven dead wrong by this amazing poet. Even with my favourite English poets, I have truly not found satisfaction like this.

Such a funny and entertaining book. Great references too. I can see why this book is regarded as a classic. Most fun sci-fi I've read yet.

Btw. Don't focus too much on the names and extra details, if a names too long then you're not expected to remember it anyways.

Book 5 is my least favourite so far. Never enjoyed funeral games, but there were some dramatic and entertaining parts especially towards the end. It wasn't PURELY funeral games, so I'd reccomend skimming the main parts and reading more the beginning and towards the end, and just watching a summary of the games themselves as they don't add anything to the story.

Dr. Ihsan Fuad is an absolute gem of kurdish literary analysis. I'm especially fascinated with kurdish-russian relations during the early 19th-20th century so it's very intriguing how Dr. Ihsan Fuad draws parallels to Pushkins "The Captains Daughter" and "Things as they are" by William Goodwin. Both works that will be added to my TBR now.
