its a non linear, jumpy book so far, which is incredibly interesting. there are short scenes compiled into the book. his prose is beautiful, him recalling bits of his childhood is so vivid, and he has already touched on war, immigration, and abuse

iris wants to steal the third alouette typewriter, trying to reach roman. cut to roman, who has remembered his name, and is now dacre’s correspondent. he dreamt of del and her death, and when he went downstairs, he sees dacre, who lowk opens up to him, telling him about his sister, and how his dreams are just dreams, and to not dwell on the past. sigh. i miss roman.

brooo!! forest returns, and it seems that him and iris have somewhat made up, despite the vicissitudes between them. the next day iris gors to work, and sees roman’s written an article that dupports dacre. next chapter is roman bring revived and meeting dacre, who appoints him as dacre’s correspondent. we’re so back baby!! its incredibly sad to see iris all by herself— how impossible it is for her and attie to return to a normal life after encountering war, harder yet, seeing the casual civilians denying war, like the chancellor who became upset and attie and iris’s articles. when iris went home, mr fricking kitt was there and said the nastiest words to iris. i miss roman

war is captured beautifully in the book. the ciolence is done well enough that it horrifies you, whilst still remaining realistic and tackling ideas of fleeting moments, humanity, lives lost, and deafh alongside grief. the characters are so humanised and believable, that death doesnt feel like some distant thing just written on a piece of paper. it feels incredibly real and meaningful

what. iris and roman go to the front lines and in the trenches, and they stay there for around four-five days when suddenly dacre is at the front lines, and enva’s army retreats. a grenade is thrown in the trench, and roman and iris barely make it alive. the trench as well as the front line evacuates, and iris is in the last lorry with her platoon lieutenant, the last living soldier in their platoon. i cant

CUTEST RUCKING CHAPTER. I WAS ACTUALLY SMILING SO MYCH IT HURT. i like how slow some moments are, how adorable and dimple it can all be, like how roman asked iris for a run. i like the simple, small, and slow banter, and its such a change of pace from fourth wing. to relish in their relationship is absolutely gorgrous
