war is captured beautifully in the book. the ciolence is done well enough that it horrifies you, whilst still remaining realistic and tackling ideas of fleeting moments, humanity, lives lost, and deafh alongside grief. the characters are so humanised and believable, that death doesnt feel like some distant thing just written on a piece of paper. it feels incredibly real and meaningful

what. iris and roman go to the front lines and in the trenches, and they stay there for around four-five days when suddenly dacre is at the front lines, and enva’s army retreats. a grenade is thrown in the trench, and roman and iris barely make it alive. the trench as well as the front line evacuates, and iris is in the last lorry with her platoon lieutenant, the last living soldier in their platoon. i cant
