Susan is on page 120 of 350 of Double Happiness: One Man's Tale of Love, Loss, and Wonder on the Long Roads of China
Tony's negotiations of the world around him in Double Happiness are wonderful and occasionally misguided, and his honesty in the face of it all is refreshing. He's definitely a participant as well as an observer, and that's a good thing.

Susan is on page 100 of 253 of The Storyteller's Daughter: One Woman's Return to Her Lost Homeland
Saira blends fact and her initially fantastical notions of her homeland in a spare way that initially jolted me, but now serves as I'm finding myself utterly addicted to her style. Highly original in point of view, I recommend this book to anyone straddling cultural worlds, and especially to those of us heading to Afghanistan for the first time. It opens souls and minds while preparing us for the practical.

She blends fact, fantasy, and how her expectations of both in her familial homeland in exquisite, mind-bending detail. Though her language is spare at times, due to both her subject matter and perceptions this seems entirely appropriate, making her approach the mind's tricks -- and the deep and mundane truths within her search -- entirely real by the no-nonsense way in which she relates the utterly fantastical.

Susan is on page 57 of 256 of The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall
The book is vibrant & lovingly told - the arguments, joys, & frustrations of creating something so timeless - and I recommend it despite the ample punctuation mistakes, which are mostly a small distraction. In other books I'd find this unforgivable (I'm a proofreader, editor & writer), but these guys have poured their hearts into a story-within-a-story that is worth telling despite the occasional missed period!

I admit to skipping around a bit - reading a little about the creation of some of my favorite Chan Marshall music - and a now reading it cover-to-cover.
